10. Six stages of
a disease
Sanchaya (Accumulation)
Prakopa (Aggravation)
Prasara (Spread)
Sthana samshraya (Localization)
Vyakti (Manifestation)
Bheda (Differentiation)
11. In this stage morbid Doshas start
accumulating in their own primary
sites.
Dislike for substances which are the
causes of the accumulation
Liking for the substances of opposite
nature.
Sanchaya
(Accumulation)
12. In this stage mild symptoms are seen.
Accumulation of Vata:
Sense of abdominal distention
Accumulation of Pitta:
Yellowish nails, eyes and urine
Accumulation of Kapha:
Feeling cold, lethargy
Symptoms
13. If one treats the disease at the
stage of Sancaya, the disease does
not spread further.
If this stage is not recognized and
the person continues to indulge in
unhealthy foods etc., the Doshas
aggravate further.
14. In this stage Doshas go on
accumulating further even in their
secondary sites.
Prakopa
(Aggravation)
16. The morbid Doshas are hyper-activated
and invade the sites of other Doshas in
addition to their own; Vata to the sites
of Pitta and Kapha etc.
They also move out of the Koshtha
(Center, Core) to Shakha (periphery)
being transported by the circulating
Rasa Dhatu.
Prasara
(Spread)
17. The person develops mild to
moderate symptoms in this
stage.
If effective treatment
becomes available , the
Doshas come back to
normal; otherwise
abnormality continues
further to the onset of the
fourth stage.
19. Unhealthy food and activities lead
to an aggravation in the Doshas.
Mild abnormalities in –
Jatharagni
Dhatus
Srotas
Ojas
During the first
three stages:
20. Sthana
Samshraya
(Localization)
The aggravated Doshas which were
circulating all over the body along
with Rasa Dhatu, now tend to get
lodged at certain places in the Dhatus
Localization occurs at the weakest site
of a Srotas
Bring about abnormalities in the
Srotas
21. The Dhatus have their defense, Ojas,
which is responsible for their strength,
to carryout their functions, to prevents
the disease in case of its happening.
The decrease of Ojas makes the Dhatus
poor in strength and susceptible to the
bad effect of the morbid Doshas.
22. Further increase of the Doshas
Union of abnormal Doshas and Dushyas
Localization of Doshas at certain places
Decrease of Ojas
Deformities of Srotas
Accumulation of Ama
23. All these act as essential
prerequisite for the onset of
the disease.
Result of these acts appears as
Puvarupa (prodromal
symptoms).
24. Vyakti
(Manifestation)
In this stage, the disease expresses
itself with all its characteristic
symptoms and signs.
These symptoms and signs are very
clearly recognizable without doubt.
The diseases are given specific names
based on the chief symptom/sign, the
organ affected and many other
factors.
25. The abnormalities can be brought to normalcy
when effective treatment and all other
favorable factors are present.
26. Bheda
(Differentiation)
This is the last stage
All the abnormalities become
still more profound and
irreversible.
In spite of the best treatment,
they continue to persist.
