Mike attended a conference to find career leads. He met an attractive woman at the hotel bar who bought him a drink. He woke up hours later in a bathtub full of ice with a phone taped to his hand and a note not to move. The hotel operator said his information had been stolen and he needed career help, so they were sending a team from NovoCareer Institute. The story was based on the urban legend known as the kidney heist.

2. Mike Schmidt flew to San Francisco for a two day regional conference to find career leads .

3. After a long day of seminars , he went over to the hotel bar for a drink. While having a beer, he looked around the room and noticed he was being observed by an attractive woman from the conference.

4. Realizing she’s been noticed, she walked to him and said hello. He gave her a business card and after glancing at his card , she offered to buy him a drink.

5. Not being in the habit of receiving attention from attractive strangers, he gladly accepted . As he took a sip he looked across the bar and that was the last thing he remembered.

6. [ 3 hours later… ]

7. ...he woke up in a hotel bathtub full of ice . There was a cell phone taped to his hand with a note: don’t move, call the front desk

8. Mike called to describe his circumstances. “ Sir, don’t panic , we’re sending someone there, this has happened before…”, said the operator.

9. “… Your flimsy business cards have been harvested,” he continued. “ Furthermore, you attended a networking event without career tools or techniques…”
