ich will möglichst kein Investment verlieren

Copyright Redalpine Venture Partners AG, Switzerland 9
Analog to football teams investors have 2 options:
invest $100m to buy Bale, Messi or Ronaldo
try to earn $100m extra with him (1.1x multiple) or
invest $5m to scout & train 20 young talents
sell the best one for $20m (4x portfolio multiple)
good Micro VCs prefer a movie rather than a photo (= 3 pitches)

Phase, Zeit, Kapital)
Referenzen checken über Investor bei Portfolio-CEOs
Nur die besten Investoren sind gut genug
Ambitionsniveau von Investor und mir muss matchen
Ich muss mit mehreren Investoren verhandeln können

16. 5. Wer kann und will früh investieren?
Typical Swiss seed & early stage investors:
200’000+ CHF millionaires
2000 angel investors + a few VC funds
20 successful investors (twice a double digit CHF million exit)
Decreasing amount of Venture Capital from VC funds:
50% less VC fund capital than 10 years ago (CTI-Invest study 2013)
2000 there were 60 VC funds in Switzerland (only 2 of those are still active)
But increasing amount of angels due to 4 times more ICT exits

17. 6. Wie spreche ich Investoren an?
Massgeschneidert d.h. vorgängig recherchieren!
Türoffner identifizieren im Netzwerk des Investors
Portfolio-Unternehmen
Ko-Investoren
Wirtschaftsanwälte, Banker, Inkubatoren, Transfer-Beauftragte usw.
Telefon, Email, Youtube, Powerpoint, Word, Excel…
gutes Timing recherchieren
Gute Investoren wollen Startups entdecken
Copyright Redalpine Venture Partners AG, Switzerland 18
18. 7. Wie pitche ich vor Investoren?
Extrem gut vorbereitet (30x üben mit Feedback!)
Enthusiastisch, locker, kompetent
Simpel, simpel, simpel – reduced to the MAX
Einziges Ziel ist nächstes Meeting
Venture challenge, CTI coaching & Entrepreneurship, Startup
Weekend, StartupBus, Schauspielschule, CTI-invest, Venturekick …
Pitch:
10 Slides (+10 Q&A u. Handout Slides)
20 Min (Pitch 5-10 Min, Rest Q&A)
nichts kleiner als Font 30

Tag along, ABV, pre money, liquidation preference, anti dilution, options…
Selbstbewusstsein ausstrahlen, d.h. mehrere Optionen organisieren
Copyright Redalpine Venture Partners AG, Switzerland 20
20. 9. Wie gehe ich mit meinen Investoren um?
Ehrlichkeit
Information Information Information!
Good news schnell liefern
Bad news ebenso

5 seconds
10 seconds: This is what I am going to tell you over the next 45 minutes: ...
20 sec: My background consists of 3 phases, first I founded 8 start-ups, then I co-financed 16 start-ups as an angel investor and finally I co-founded Switzerland‘s first early-stage venture capital venture fund
20 sec: Redalpine manages Redalpine 1, a 20m micro VC fund since 2007 and now launches Redalpine 2, an 80m micro VC fund.
We are good at detecting the most promosing high-tech high-innovation startups in Europe where we invest early at low valuations and aim for exits at high valuations (30x multiple).
25 seconds: I would like to compare our micro VC fund with a Swiss football club:
We would prefer to invest $5m in 20 young talents and sell the best talent after a few years to CSK Moscow for $100m such as Bern Young Boys did with Seydou Doumbia.
An english or spanish top club with a billionaire as sponsor would rather invest $100m in an existing star what I think limits the upside of the investment.
15 sec: The challenge for a good early stage investor is the same as for an ice hockey start: you must not skate to the place where the puck is now, but to the place where the puck is going to be, as Wayne Gretzky said
