3. The Masthead
My masthead is made by the font names “Apple Casual”. I
used this font because even though the font name itself
sounds “soft” and “nice”, by using a dark colour, it almost
makes it look “jagged” and “violent” which is what I wanted
it to look like. It also makes it stand out a lot more as it goes
with my masthead itself. This will attract my target
audience as they will be looking for something that is quite
violent.
By using a dark red colour it attracts my audience even
more as my magazine was originally aimed at younger
readers and they would enjoy looking at something that
might and could scare them a little.
4. Colours
I used dark colours to attract my audience. I figured that colours such
as dark red, blue, black and while would attract a lot of my readers
attentions.
In my front cover, I decide to u the name of my rapper in dark blue to
make it stand out from everything else that has been included in my
front cover. It goes against everything else mentioned in our magazine.
I made sure that this carried on through out the course of my
magazine, so that every time I had to mention my rap artist some
where within my magazine, i made sure he stood out by using the
Blackoak Standard font and the same dark blue font. Sort of like a
signature thing for my artist.
Also by making sure every time The Truth was mentioned he was blue,
it was a way of grabbing the readers attention so that they would be
able to get to know he artist more and start to like them.
5. Photography
The photo I used for my front cover is quite effective as my artist
is looking out to a distance rather then looking at front towards
the camera. This is unique as usually people that pose for the
front cover of magazines are usually looking at the camera and
that is usually the same for all magazines so my magazine stands
out form all other magazines.
I used different photo shop effects to make my photos stand out
and match up to my magazine making it look a lot hard and
rough. For my front cover, double page spread and my two little
photos in the double page spread a posterize effect and for my
contents page I used a threshold effect. I used a different effect
for my contents page because the contents page doesn’t really
have a good job apart from to tell the readers what is going to be
in the magazine and therefore makes it stand out a little more.
The effects go really well with the genre of my magazine.
7. Writing Style
The writing style I used was a type of lexis and a restricted
language code and very modern. I used words like; “bro”,
“na”, “bruv”, “fam” etc during the interview with m artist.
This is so that I can communicate with my readers. This
sort of language was very hard for me to use as I don't use
those kind of words in my everyday life.
Also on my double page spread, I used words like “pounce”
and “sprung” which is a part of a semantic field. I used
these words to engage with my readers. These phrases are
casual and informal. Most of the words I used through my
magazine show that my magazine is mostly targeted
towards young adults and teenagers.
8. Photographs
I used my photo to try and come through and to address
my readers. I made sure my artist was dressed quite
casually to show that he is very much the same as my
readers. The casual clothing represents what my readers
are likely to wear in their everyday life.
The locations of my photos were in a park and just around
my neighbourhood. Although this worked really well when
taking my pictures as he day was wet and gloomy which set
the scene for my magazine genre. My artist was laid back
and not trying so hard which also went well and was
effective. My readers are able to relate to m magazine and
my artist because of these different things.
