2. Introduction
Research is an unveiling of facts about a particular object or the
things substantiated by currently available modern scientific
tools.
Literary research, which is an integral part of Ayurveda, is one
of the important divisions in the field of research, which is ever
progressing.
Rasa Sindura is a Kupipakwa Rasa preparation.
In Rasa Tarangini (20th cent.A.D.),7 preparation of Gandhak
Jarita Rasa Sindura has been explained.
3. Kupipakwa Rasa Kalpa
Kupipakva is a procedure developed mainly for Gandhee
Jarana.
Kupipakva Rasa kalpa emerged to be one of the
best Rasaushadhis (mercurial preparations).
These are also called Sindoor
kalpas as their final product is
red in colour.

Basically three types are seen based on the inclusion of Gandhak in the
ingredients, time of corking the mouth of Kupi and the site of obtaining the final
product.
5. Rasa Sindura
First time documentation of Rasa Sindura kalpana was
done by Shree Yashodhara in his book Rasaprakash
Sudhakar under name of Udaybhaskar Rasa.
In Rasa Tarangini it was mentioned with Ardhaguna
Gandhak Jarita to Shadguna Gandhak Jarita with using
different Swarasa as Bhawana Dravya.
Rasa Sindura means a vermillion coloured substance
prepared with Rasa(Mercury) which removes the deep
seated vitiation in the body.
6. Ingredients
In different texts of Rasa Shastra, preparation of Rasa
Sindura is described with some variation in ingredients
and procedure.
Parada and Gandhaka are the essential constituents along
with some Vatankura-swarasa,Ghritkumari swarasa etc as
Bhawana dravya.
According to other texts of Rasa Shastra this formulation
contains Makshika sattwa, Swarna, Vajra Bhasma
(A.K.23/126-127), Naga(R.P.S 3/19) and Nausadar
(Y.R.155/1-8,R.S.S.1/75-76) etc.
7. Properties of Rasa Sindura

Shadrasa
Guru and Snigdha Guna
Ushna Virya
Madhura Vipaka
Rasayana Vajikarana and Sarvarogahara prabhava.
Besides being pramehahara also works on Pandu
Rajayakshma and Sthaulya(R.S.6/190-198)

9. Anupana
तत्तद् रोगघ्न भैषज्यम ् भेषजस्यानुऩीयते
यच्च सहायकारी स्याद् अनुऩानम ् तद् उच्यते।
Whatever which reduces the ailment by augmenting action of
medicine,when taken along with it is known as Anupana.
(Rasatarangini)
Anupana is the media which can be given either before or after
or along with drug or diet(Hemadri on A.H.Su8/50)
The correct anupana as per the disease will enhance the activity
of main drug means potentiates main drug(Y.R. Rasayan).
10. Anupana karmukata-
As the oil added to water spreads
quickly on the surface of water, so the Aushadha along
with the Anupana spreads in the body and produces its
effect when administered with appropriate Anupana.

14. Conclusion
Thus the physicians can see the amazing clinical aspects
of Rasa Sindura which can be used to treat various
diseases by changing the specific Anupanas.
Rasa Sindoor can be used not only in general medical
conditions but can also in the neuropsychiatric conditions.
Today there is urgent need of such drugs with multifaceted
qualities in Ayurveda practices.
