FS #2- Episode 4 : Teaching Strategies and Methods
OBSERVATION SHEET
Guiding Principles in the
Selection and Use of Strategies
Teaching Behavior of the Resource Teacher that
Applies the Principle
1. Learning is an active process. The teacher lets the students read the selection and
threw various questions afterwards. She lets the
students dramatize a situation showing good deeds
and bravery because it is related to the subject
matter.
2. The more senses that are
involved, the more and the
better the learning.
The teacher only catered the sense of sight, since the
activity only involves reading the selection. But I
think the students learned a lot and have internalized
the topic since she lets the students do dramatization
in which it altered the point of view of the students
about having supernatural power.
3. A non-threatening atmosphere
enhances learning.
The teacher dealt the students by starting the lesson
with a smile and soft and calm voice. If certain
couldn’t answer the question, she has thrown, she
would likely change the mood of questioning into an
easy one or else she would let someone answer it
without discriminating the other student. The teacher
also respects any answers and is willing to accept
questions and doubts coming from the students.
4. Emotion has the power to
increase retention and
learning.
Emotion is well-catered since the lesson is about
literature. The teacher sees to it that they could
really feel the emotion of the main character because
she’s certain that the students could really relate on
it and eventually could retain all their learning in the
future.
5. Good teaching goes beyond
recall of information.
The teacher integrates the importance of realizing
what has learned. She emphasized that it is not how
well they memorized and recall information but its
how they can apply it in their daily lives.
6. Learning is meaningful when
it is connected to students’
everyday life.
The students dramatized the given situations by the
teacher. The situations are usually being observed in
students’ everyday life. Like helping an old woman
crossing a highway, returning a lost and found bag
with money in it to the owner or in the police
station, and practicing proper waste management.
7. An integrated teaching
approach is far more effective
than teaching isolated bits of
information.
There are teachable moments occurred in the class
discussion. The teacher integrates lessons which are
essential to the betterment of her students. She does
not focus only to one and isolated bits of
information.
OBSERVATION SHEET
Guiding Principles in the
Selection and Use of Strategies
Teaching Behavior of the Resource Teacher that
Applies the Principle
1. Learning is an active process. The teacher used deductive method yet there are
instances that he lets the students formulate their
own if-then statements and answer Math problems
related to functional.
2. The more senses that are
involved, the more and the
better the learning.
The sense of sight was the only sense catered since it
is Math subject. It is not necessary to involve all the
senses.
3. A non-threatening atmosphere
enhances learning.
The teacher always wear smile all throughout the
discussion. He accepts errors and questions. He has a
long patient making the atmosphere a non-
threatening.
4. Emotion has the power to
increase retention and
learning.
The teacher made his discussion an enjoyable one
that promotes fun while learning. I can see that
learners had really retained learning.
5. Good teaching goes beyond
recall of information.
The teacher asked various questions in which the
students could really answer his questions no matter
what he asked. This proves that he teaches well.
6. Learning is meaningful when
it is connected to students’
everyday life.
The teacher asked the students situations that usually
happen in reality following the if-then statements.
7. An integrated teaching
approach is far more effective
than teaching isolated bits of
information.
There are teachable moments occurred in the class
discussion. The teacher integrates lessons which are
essential to the betterment of her students.

My Analysis
For me, the principles are in accordance with the brain-based teaching and
learning. The diverse students are well-entertained or well-catered since various methods
are used and employed in obtaining the specific aims of the teacher to the learners.
Learners are totally engaged and can develop their learning needs. Cognitive,
Psychomotor and the Affective domains are really developed. Learners’ learning now
cannot be snatched by others since they have internalized the learned lessons.

My Reflections
There is no best method of teaching. I believe that those individuals who have
formulated the methods and strategies also believe that there is no such best method in
teaching. Teachers used varied methods in order to cater all the needs of the learners.
Possibly, one method could only just cater about 4-5 multiple intelligences therefore
there is a need for the teachers to use and employ varied techniques to their diversified
students. Experienced teachers usually use deductive method for group of students who
are slightly mentally challenged. Sometimes, inductive method is employed by teachers
to those groups of learners who are mentally inclined. No best method since there is no
best individual who could think of a method that would genuinely fit and cater all the
needs, interest, and learning styles of the learners. Therefore, teachers must employ
various methods to make sure the learners are well-catered. Furthermore, each method
has disadvantages which possibly could deteriorate learners’ intellect.

  • 1. Name of FS Student : Ian Jim A. Bayson Course : BSED- English Year and Section: II Resource Teachers : Mrs. Levi Pacalioga Signature: ______________ Mr. Arlie Duco Signature: ______________ Cooperating School : JH Cerilles State College Date of Visit : January 20, 2014 FS #2- Episode 4 : Teaching Strategies and Methods OBSERVATION SHEET Guiding Principles in the Selection and Use of Strategies Teaching Behavior of the Resource Teacher that Applies the Principle 1. Learning is an active process. The teacher lets the students read the selection and threw various questions afterwards. She lets the students dramatize a situation showing good deeds and bravery because it is related to the subject matter. 2. The more senses that are involved, the more and the better the learning. The teacher only catered the sense of sight, since the activity only involves reading the selection. But I think the students learned a lot and have internalized the topic since she lets the students do dramatization in which it altered the point of view of the students about having supernatural power. 3. A non-threatening atmosphere enhances learning. The teacher dealt the students by starting the lesson with a smile and soft and calm voice. If certain couldn’t answer the question, she has thrown, she would likely change the mood of questioning into an easy one or else she would let someone answer it without discriminating the other student. The teacher also respects any answers and is willing to accept questions and doubts coming from the students. 4. Emotion has the power to increase retention and learning. Emotion is well-catered since the lesson is about literature. The teacher sees to it that they could really feel the emotion of the main character because she’s certain that the students could really relate on it and eventually could retain all their learning in the future.
  • 2. 5. Good teaching goes beyond recall of information. The teacher integrates the importance of realizing what has learned. She emphasized that it is not how well they memorized and recall information but its how they can apply it in their daily lives. 6. Learning is meaningful when it is connected to students’ everyday life. The students dramatized the given situations by the teacher. The situations are usually being observed in students’ everyday life. Like helping an old woman crossing a highway, returning a lost and found bag with money in it to the owner or in the police station, and practicing proper waste management. 7. An integrated teaching approach is far more effective than teaching isolated bits of information. There are teachable moments occurred in the class discussion. The teacher integrates lessons which are essential to the betterment of her students. She does not focus only to one and isolated bits of information.
  • 3. OBSERVATION SHEET Guiding Principles in the Selection and Use of Strategies Teaching Behavior of the Resource Teacher that Applies the Principle 1. Learning is an active process. The teacher used deductive method yet there are instances that he lets the students formulate their own if-then statements and answer Math problems related to functional. 2. The more senses that are involved, the more and the better the learning. The sense of sight was the only sense catered since it is Math subject. It is not necessary to involve all the senses. 3. A non-threatening atmosphere enhances learning. The teacher always wear smile all throughout the discussion. He accepts errors and questions. He has a long patient making the atmosphere a non- threatening. 4. Emotion has the power to increase retention and learning. The teacher made his discussion an enjoyable one that promotes fun while learning. I can see that learners had really retained learning. 5. Good teaching goes beyond recall of information. The teacher asked various questions in which the students could really answer his questions no matter what he asked. This proves that he teaches well. 6. Learning is meaningful when it is connected to students’ everyday life. The teacher asked the students situations that usually happen in reality following the if-then statements. 7. An integrated teaching approach is far more effective than teaching isolated bits of information. There are teachable moments occurred in the class discussion. The teacher integrates lessons which are essential to the betterment of her students.
  • 4. Name of FS Student : Ian Jim A. Bayson Course : BSED- English Year and Section: II Cooperating School : JH Cerilles State College Date of Visit : January 20, 2014 My Analysis For me, the principles are in accordance with the brain-based teaching and learning. The diverse students are well-entertained or well-catered since various methods are used and employed in obtaining the specific aims of the teacher to the learners. Learners are totally engaged and can develop their learning needs. Cognitive, Psychomotor and the Affective domains are really developed. Learners’ learning now cannot be snatched by others since they have internalized the learned lessons.
  • 5. Name of FS Student : Ian Jim A. Bayson Course : BSED- English Year and Section: II Cooperating School : JH Cerilles State College Date of Visit : January 20, 2014 My Reflections There is no best method of teaching. I believe that those individuals who have formulated the methods and strategies also believe that there is no such best method in teaching. Teachers used varied methods in order to cater all the needs of the learners. Possibly, one method could only just cater about 4-5 multiple intelligences therefore there is a need for the teachers to use and employ varied techniques to their diversified students. Experienced teachers usually use deductive method for group of students who are slightly mentally challenged. Sometimes, inductive method is employed by teachers to those groups of learners who are mentally inclined. No best method since there is no best individual who could think of a method that would genuinely fit and cater all the needs, interest, and learning styles of the learners. Therefore, teachers must employ various methods to make sure the learners are well-catered. Furthermore, each method has disadvantages which possibly could deteriorate learners’ intellect.
