1. civ.works
The People’s Social Network
"It is a great pleasure to welcome civ.works. It’s a wonderful idea, with great promise to
provide a platform for meaningful civic action without the severely distorting interference
of concentrated power, private or state. Civ.works is insulated from the forces that have
been so destructive of functioning democracy and is readily available for the kinds of
constructive use that are so badly needed today." --Noam Chomsky
Founded in 2017, the 501c3 non-profit Civic Works is dedicated to developing media and
technology to promote sustained, meaningful civic engagement.
Our first major product is civ.works –a web platform launched in early 2017. On a daily basis
civ.works collects opportunities for effective civic action and publishes them for our
subscribers based upon location and issue affinity. For example –a subscriber in Newport,
Oregon that has selected “Education” as an issue focus can be alerted to a School Board
Candidate debate in their region.
Coupled with the power of groups and news from sources such as The New York Times,
The Guardian and other vetted sources –we are working to improve the quality of
information and citizen engagement using a privacy-protected, ad-free social network as
the gateway for civic action –while working in concert with model laws, elected officials and
campaigns.
Social Actions My Electeds
Our core social product –
people connecting and
discussing topical news and
politics. Our community can
crosspost to Facebook and
Twitter. Public and private
group discussion is
supported.
We aggregate hundreds of
civic actions on a daily basis
at the local, regional, and
national level and then
personalize them for our
community-based upon
their issue affinity and
location.
Based upon their location
our subscribers can get
detailed contact information
for their elected officials. We
will soon be expanding this
to include info from sources
such as ProPublica.
2. We aggregate civic actions from organizations such as:
