Spelling/Punctuation/Grammar
Make sure the spelling is
consistent with the region to
which you are applying for.
Read through the document
thoroughly at least 3 times to ensure
no grammar/spelling mistakes
Only use capital letters at the
beginnings of sentences and
proper nouns.
Get someone else to
proofread in case you have
missed an error.
When you have finished
checking all these mistakes,
check it again. You can never
proofread a CV too much.
Visual
Use black font throughout the
document.
Use a restrained font such as
Arial, Calibri or Times New
Roman. Don't use artistic font as it
will be difficult to read.
Depending on the country
where you are applying it's
sometimes not necessary to
include a picture.
Use bullet points, as bigger
paragraphs can be hard to
read and can turn off
recruiters.
Make sure the layout is
consistent. Same font type &
size.
It's advisable to leave white
space, just make sure all
indents are consistent.
Charts and graphs may
affect the layout of the
document during printing.
ContentA CV should be maximum 2
pages
If specific skills are
mentioned, make sure
you include them.
Include tangible
achievements 'Devised
new sustainability projects'.
Make sure you tailor your
CV to the specified job,
step out of generic Cv's.
Include hobbies and
interests, but only
briefly.
List your experience in
reverse chronological order
eg. the most recent first.
Make sure your CV is
consistent with online
profiles such as LinkedIn.
Very important -
Do not lie.
Ensure contact details are
correct. Don't include
unnecessary information such
as religion, or race.
