The concept of “Forever recession”, coined by Seth Godin is
particularly relevant to the present world climate and the business
challenges we face today.

There are two recessions: The first is the cyclical one, the one that inevitably comes and
then inevitably goes. There’s plenty of evidence that intervention can shorten it, and also
indications that overdoing a response to it is a waste or even harmful…
The other recession, though, the one with the loss of “good factory jobs” and systemic
unemployment…I fear that this recession is here forever”

The evolution of internet has been building with it an entire new economy that now is
by default digital.
Its future is creating an AI predictive algorithm based real time big data, IOT and
modeling system of operations that all businesses around the world are adoption. The
business leaders that fail in this will disappear in a short term spam.
Innovation is the capacity to bridge all this.

In essence, we are living in a continuous crisis.
But when you are in crisis it forces you to change and adapt faster. Similarly, you will
invest more effort in upgrading your knowledge, skills, and focus. When forced into a
crisis it is imperative for any business to figure out how to do something unique and
discover how people will be able to pay for it, or get enough solutions to get what is really
necessary. Crisis can make people more innovative, and productive.

In a world that has been changing drastically since the post-industrial revolution, the
way ideas spread, products, marketing and communication are radically new, and
constantly evolving. Thus, in such a landscape there is a need for a strong focus
leadership. When you find yourself in a world shaped by crowdsourcing, numbers, data,
and most of all where social behavior is irreversible, the best position is to keep a strong
identity and focus.

Some innovation ideas DNA to bear in mind: synthesis:
1. Build a community and culture, but start in-house;
2. Have a clear message / focus, and even if it changes be honest about it;
3. Continuously take a double Reality Check;
4. Make sure you don’t go it alone; create partnerships and collaborate;
5. Be straight forward, honest and play to your strengths;
6. Apply persistence, honesty and rigor;
7. Move to where your audience and consumers are;
8. Always keep your idea, product, services, or offering in beta and learn from other Industries;
9. Make sure you keep on testing your idea;
10. Be a leader of change;
11. Balance passion and objectivity;
12. Keep on learning, adapting and changing!
To finish again a quote Seth Godin in the article “Forever recession”:
“Job creation is a false idol. The future is about gigs and assets and art and an ever-
shifting series of partnerships and projects. It will change the fabric of our society along
the way. No one is demanding that we like the change, but the sooner we see it and set
out to become an irreplaceable linchpin, the faster the pain will fade, as we get down to
the work that needs to be (and now can be) done.”
