10. DESIGN PRINCIPLES FOR HCI
● Three important USE words for your design
● Useful
○ Functional, it works
● Usable
○ Easy to do things, does right things, enjoyable user
experience
● Used
○ Attractive, available and acceptable
12. NEW AGE ENTERPRISE NEEDS
What is your imagination of new age enterprise ?
● The needs of new age enterprise information
○ Ubiquitous access to information
● More skilled workforce
○ Workforce will be experts in a domain
● Highly competitive and demanding market
○ Must solve customer problems and quickly
13. TYPES OF ENTERPRISE APPLICATIONS
IT Applications
ER, BI, Supply chain, CRM etc
Non IT Applications
Engineering, Manufacturing,
Production, BMS etc
15. THE NEEDS ARE DIFFERENT
“I want the
information I am
looking for”
“I want to talk my
machines, and
work together”
16. WHAT MUST BE ENTERPRISE HCI
● A pervasive & cognitive assisted, context aware and
conversational Human Computer Interaction
● Must be embedded into the application, not retro-fit
● Must understand what I am looking for, pervasive search
○ Remember the mental model
● Must be context aware
○ Do not expect workforce to do conventional menu browsing
● Conversational
○ Not just an audio, an assistance to talk to
17. CONTEXT AWARE AND CONVERSATIONAL
● Context aware
○ With so much of information, linear menu browsing doesn’t
work
○ Number of actions (clicks) needed to perform certain task
must be minimized
○ Browsing the applications must have minimal cognitive load
○ My mental model has the context, computer interface must
support
18. CONTEXT AWARE AND CONVERSATIONAL
● Conversational
○ Do not expect users to remember the choice OR menu
○ Doesn’t always mean audio
○ We have come a long way from FORmulaTRANslation
○ Human’s from different skill set must to use computer
○ A training to use an assistant !! no way
■ Assistant must adopt to me !
