RAFAEL :
- Right fullback : fast, good in
cross and offensive
movements without ball. In
4-4-2 diamond plays like
fullback, in 3-5-2 plays like
right lateral midfielder.
Before Van Gaal's arrival had
marking and position
problems. Now the things
have changed.
SHAW :
-Young left fullback : good in
offensive phase, problems
with the marking. He has too
much injuries, and this
situations are affecting his
game.
6. VALENCIA :
-Natural position : right winger
He has all the winger's qualities.

-Playmaker. The Constructor.
Great technique and game
vision. A leader. He also has all
the qualities of playing in
defence.
BLIND :
-Left footed. Polyvalent
player : he can play like
playmaker in front of the
defence, left back and
central defender.
-He is not fast, but has good
technique and creative-
constructive abilities
8. ATTACKING / CENTRAL MIDFIELDERS
(AM /CM)
FELLAINI :
- Good Midfielder, with great
timing of insertions from
behind. Excellent physics and
technique. Good in aerial
duels. Tactically anarchic.
HERRERA :
-Elevated technique,
construction, creativity with
deadly passes. In the midfield
rhomb or triangle he can
occupy all the position.
9. DI MARIA :
-Left footed. Polyvalent player :
he can play like winger,
attacking midfielder, lateral
midfielder, second forward.
Very fast and great in 1vs1
duels. Excellent in insertions
from behind and movements
between the lines. He sacrifice
for the team and helps in
defensive phase.
MATA :
-Left footed. Natural position :
trequartista.A player with
elevated technique and great
movements between the lines.
Good in insertions from behind
and great acceleration. He is
not so strong physically but
resistant in the duels.
10. FLETCHER :
- A central midfielder with
normal constructive abilities,
and higher destructive abilities.
A team player, who sacrifice for
the team, high concentration
and good position.
JANUZAJ :
-Young left footed winger. Very
fast and good in 1vs1 duels, but
still anarchic tactically and
positionally.
11. STRIKERS (ST)
VAN PERSIE :
- A left footed number ''9''. A
goleador with elevated
technical abilities, who can
play like second striker. He
oftens wants the ball in depth
,making a specific movement.
FALCAO :
-A born goleador, normal
technique , but abnormal goal
instinct. He is suffering with
injuries, but if he finds his
normal form, it will be difficult
to stop him.
12. ROONEY :
-The number ''10'' in the team.
The captain,the Leader. A
polyvalent player ,who can play
like striker, trequartista,
attacking midfielder.
-Thanks to his elevated
technique and creativity he
also takes care about phase of
construction. Often makes a
long pass on the empty
flank,changing the game.
WILSON :
-Young striker. Possible future
star. He sacrifice a lot for the
team,also in defensive phase.
13. 2. GENERAL
* They are using two systems of play :
1. 3-5-2 , if the opponent is technically and tactically strong.
They are not favorites.
2. 4-4-2 Diamond, if the opponent's technical-tactical abilities
are on low/medium level. They are favorites.
14.
15.
16.
17. THEIR FOOTBALL PHILOSOPHY IS BASED ON
FIVE (5) FUNDAMENTAL PRINCIPLES /IDEAS :
1. CENTRALLY DYNAMICAL RHOMBOID
2. BALL POSSESSION
3. OFFENSIVE FOOTBALL
4. DEFENSIVE DOMINATION
5. MAN MARKING IN THE MIDFIELD
18.
19.
20.
21.
22.
23.
24. - If the opponent is playing a closed, defensive
football, the offensive action has a very patient
and long time interval, based on a lot short passes
and game changes , for creating a eventual hole in
the opponent's formation
- If they have red card, the system changes in 4-4-1
25. 3. SPECIFIC SYSTEM OF PLAY :
3-5-2
-This system of play is based on five (5) fundamental
principles :
1. CENTRALLY DYNAMICAL RHOMBOID (in defense)
2. BALL POSSESSION
3. OFFENSIVE FOOTBALL
4. DEFENSIVE DOMINATION
5. MAN MARKING IN THE MIDFIELD
26. OFFENSIVE PHASE :
1. A system used against a teams with higher and
elevated technique and tactic levels.
2. A system of play created and based on a CENTRAL
DYNAMICAL RHOMBOID IN DEFENCE and a lot
TRIANGLES for development of the construction
phase ,starting from the goalkeeper.
-The game and the tactic are based on patient and
taking advantage of the flanks, thanks to the
offensive characteristics of the lateral midfielders
(wingers with elevated technique ,cross and in 1vs1
offensive duels).
3. The structure of the CENTRAL DYNAMICAL
RHOMBOID IN DEFENCE :
- the three defenders + the playmaker
4. Thanks to the offensive qualities of the attacking
midfielders and their movements without ball , the
structure of the system can variate in 3-4-1-2 ( Mata
often between the lines).
27.
28.
29.
30.
31.
32.
33. Zone 1 :
1,The action starts from De Gea, he passes the ball to one
of the defenders or to the Playmaker (Carrick, Blind). In
this phase , starts the forming of the CENTRAL DYNAMICAL
RHOMBOID for creating a phase of construction.
2. If the playmaker is marked, the defenders develop the
action with passes, entering in Zone 2 ( very patient
construction).
3.If the opponent plays with ultra offensive pressing, De
Gea tries to find the strikers in Zone 3 (often Van Persie) or
Valencia or Fellaini in Zone 3 right lateral zone.
34.
35.
36.
37. Zone 2 :
If the opponent is playing a closed, defensive
football, the offensive action has a very patient and
long time interval, based on a lot short passes and
game changes , for creating a eventual hole in the
opponent's formation
1.If the playmaker is free, he is the principal
catalizator and constructor of every action.
The action / phase of construction is developing :
1.1 tries to find one of the attacking midfielders in
Zone 3 (between the lines).
1.2 moves the ball on the flanks to the lateral
midfielders in Zone 2/3
1.3 sends a long diagonal/vertical pass in Zone3/4 for
one of the strikers ,which attacks the depth.
2. If the playmaker is marked, the duties of
construction passes on one of the defenders
( depending in which lateral zone ,the action takes
place / right : Jones, Smalling / left : Rojo, Blackett ,
Evans) , the action /phase of construction is
developing :
38. 2.1 tries to find one of the attacking midfielders in
Zone 3 (between the lines).
2.2 moves the ball on the flanks to the lateral
midfielders in Zone 2/3
2.3 sends a long diagonal/vertical pass in Zone3/4 for
one of the strikers ,which attacks the depth.
3. If the playmaker is marked, one of the attacking
midfielders moves down in Zone 2 for help during the
phase of construction, developing the actions with
the same duties :
3.1 tries to find the other attacking midfielder or one
of the strikers in Zone 3 (between the lines).
3.2 moves the ball on the flanks to the lateral
midfielders in Zone 2/3
3.3 sends a long diagonal/vertical pass in Zone3/4 for
one of the strikers ,which attacks the depth.
47. Zone 3 :
*Same thing here, If the opponent is playing a
closed, defensive football, the offensive action has a
very patient and long time interval, based on a lot
short passes and game changes , for creating a
eventual hole in the opponent's formation
* In this Zone ( if the opponents is closed and
compact ) participate the two of the three central
defenders( Rojo(sx) and Jones(rx) in specific : thank
to their medium technique abilities) creating a
superiority in the midfield.).
48. 2. If one of the attacking midfielders has received
the filtered pass from Zone 2 :
2.1 Attacks Zone 4 centrally straight in the
opponent's central defenders
2.2 Moves the ball on the flank for the lateral
midfielders
2.3 Tries to find one of the strikers ( who attacks in
depth) with vertical/diagonal pass.
1. If the playmaker has the ball , he keeps the same
duties like in Zone 2 :
1.1 tries to find one of the attacking midfielders in
Zone 3/4 (between the lines).
1.2 moves the ball on the flanks to the lateral
midfielders in Zone 3/4
1.3 sends a long diagonal/vertical pass in Zone 4 for
one of the strikers ,which attacks the depth.
62. 3. If the ball is moved on the flanks or comes from
Zone 2, they create lateral dynamical triangles,
rhomboideus and pentagon for attacking the Zone 4
with lateral numerical superiority through lateral
insertions or cross :
3. LATERAL DYNAMICAL TRIANGLES :
3.1.1 : lateral midfielder + attacking midfielder +
playmaker
3.1.2 : lateral midfielder + central defender + playmaker
3.1.3 : lateral midfielder + central defender + attacking
midfielder
3.1.4 : lateral midfielder + attacking midfielder + striker
77. Zone 4 :
1. Central Zone :
1.1 they attack with the ball directly the
opponent's central defenders and shoot on goal (
great shooters)
1.2 pass in depth for one of the strikers
1.3 diagonal pass on the flanks for the lateral
midfielders
78.
79.
80.
81.
82. 2. LATERAL ZONE:
1.1 Thanks to the winger characteristics of the lateral
midfielders , they attack the opponent in velocity and
with 1vs1 offensive duels.
1.2 With the lateral dynamical triangles , rhomboids
and pentagon , they attack the flanks for eventual
crosses :
1.2.1 : during the cross : one of the strikers attacks
the first post, the other striker the second post, one
of the attacking midfielders is attacking centrally from
behind ( Rooney, Mata and Fellaini are excellent in
this dutie) , the opposite lateral midfielder wait for
eventual second balls.
83.
84.
85.
86.
87.
88.
89.
90. SPECIFIC ASPECTS OF THE OFFENSIVE PHASE:
1. Carrick often plays in the defensive trio, for more
effective and productive phase of constructions, but
also thanks to his physical characteristics.
2. If one of the attacking midfielder drops down in
Zone 2 near the playmaker , and the other attacking
midfielder is moving between the lines, the tactical
structure changes in 3-4-1-2.
3. One or Two of the central defenders often move
in Zone 2/3 for creating a numerical superiority. In
this situations ,they try a parabolic/diagonal long
pass for the striker or the lateral midfielder in the
opposite lateral zone.
4. One of the attacking midfielders, often changes
the game on the opposite flank with a long
diagonal/parabolic pass ( often Rooney, thanks to
his creative and constructive characteristics).
91. 5. Young is crossing very often from the left flank,
but thanks to his winger qualities ,he can accentred
and try shoot on goal.
6.The strikers some times get confused and attack
the same post.
7. Specific Scheme : One of the attacking midfielders
, in Zone 3, makes a long diagonal pass in Zone 4 for
the opposite striker(who attacks the depth : Falcao
or Van Persie). In meantime, the other striker and
the other attacking midfielder are following the
actions and they attack the penalty area for
eventual pass from the striker.
8. The central defender's tecnical capacities are on
medium/low levers. In some cases this levels can
create problems ,especially in phase of construction
and followed with errors ,for creating eventual
offensive transition of the opponent.
9. Young (sx) and Valencia(dx) are very good in 1vs1
offensive duels.
104. DEFENSIVE PHASE :
1. This system offers a major defensive
covering. They defend with 5-3-2 very short
and compact.
1.1 In some cases, if Van Persie moves on the
right flank for helping in the covering, the
system transforms in 5-4-1.
2. They have always extra player in defence.
The three defenders are zone marking ,
always covered by the playmaker. If the
opponent's striker is from superior calibre ,
he is man marked from one of the
defenders( specific cases).
3. Supremacy and Domination in aerial duels
and physical duels.
105. 4. Also , in this phase they use Dynamical
triangles, rhomboids and pentagon , but for
diametrical opposite reason : they want to close
and block the pass trajectories of the opponent,
putting him in difficulties and creating eventual
offensive transition ( often in defensive
transition, they want to win the ball
immediately).
5. In midfield are man marking.
6. Pressing : they are using a medium pressing.
- With the midfield man marking, they block the
opponent's playmaker/s. The strikers are
blocking the pass trajectories for the
opponent's fullbacks, using passive pressing on
the opponent ball carrier, leaving to him (central
defender) the construction .
-They know that he has low technique and
creative capacities, with possible solutions :
6.1 long pass ( Manchester's defenders are
superior in aerial duels).
6.2 error ( eventual offensive transition).
127. 5 And 6. : MIDFIELD MAN MARKING AND MEDIUM
PRESSING
128.
129.
130.
131.
132.
133.
134.
135.
136.
137. OFFENSIVE TRANSITION :
-They steal the ball through Dynamical triangles, rhomboids
and pentagon.
-They attack with 4+1 or 5+1
1. If they steal the ball in Zone 2/3 centrally, in the offensive
transition participate the two attacking midfielders + the two
strikers and one of the lateral midfielders.
1.1 The development of the action :
1.1.1 vertical passes in depth for the strikers
1.1.2 enlargement on the flanks
2. If they steal the ball in Zone 2/3 laterally, in the offensive
transition participate the two attacking midfielders + the two
strikers and the two lateral midfielders :
2.1 The development of the action :
2.1.1 lateral insertions ,attacking Zone 3/4
2.1.2 moving the ball in central zone for one of the attacking
midfielders.
2.1.3 long vertical pass for one of the strikers.
2.1.4 long parabolic/diagonal pass for the opposite lateral
midfielder
3. If the steal the ball in Zone 4 or on the end of Zone 3 :
3.1 try to find the strikers vertically
3.2 if there is space ,can shoot on the goal
3.3 moving the ball on the empty flanks for eventual crosses
and insertions from behind.
138.
139.
140.
141.
142.
143.
144. DEFENSIVE TRANSITION :
-The weakness of every big squad ,which wants to dominate
the game.
-If the defensive transition is positive, the team will never
suffer from opponent's offensive transition. The only weakness
is if the defensive transition is negative.
-They try to win the ball immediately with the Dynamical
triangles. rhomboids and pentagon.
1. During the ball loss , they are always covered with 4 players
which remain in defence : the three defenders + the playmaker.
2. The problems start when they lose the ball in Zone 2 (the
defenders errors : low technique and creative abilities) without
cover.
3. When the ball is lost in Zone 4/3 ,they try immediately to
win it back ,with the Dynamical triangles ,rhomboids and
pentagon , blocking the trajectories of eventual passes.
4. Often ,they have positive defensive transition ,because the
lateral midfielders are very fast and immediately go back for
covering or destructing the opponent's offensive transition.

149.
150.
151.
152.
153.
154.
155.
156. 4. SPECIFIC SYSTEM OF PLAY :
4-4-2 Diamond
-This system of play is based on five (5) fundamental
principles :
1. CENTRALLY DYNAMICAL RHOMBOID (in midfield
(central zone))
2. BALL POSSESSION
3. OFFENSIVE FOOTBALL
4. DEFENSIVE DOMINATION
5. MAN MARKING IN THE MIDFIELD
157. OFFENSIVE PHASE :
1. A system of play used against a inferior teams,
where they are considered like favorites.
2. System of play based on DYNAMICAL CENTRAL
RHOMBOID in CENTRAL MIDFIELD ZONE ( for central
numerical superiority) and a lot triangles.
- The primary task is to take advantage in Zone 2/3
central zone via the numerical superiority , and then
moving the ball on the flanks for the offensive full
backs.
-A system of play very patient and based on ball
possession.
3. The structure of the DYNAMICAL CENTRAL
RHOMBOID in CENTRAL MIDFIELD ZONE :
- Playmaker + two central midfielders + trequartista
(attacking midfielder).
158.
159.
160.
161.
162. Zone 1:
- The action starts from De Gea, who tries to find
the playmaker (who moves down in Zone 1, in the
central defenders line(which go wide) ). In this way
is created a 3-4-1-2 ( the two lateral fullbacks move
forward in Zone 2 ,for take the opponent far away
from Zone 1).
-De Gea ,if sees that the action's development is in
danger, makes a long pass in Zone 3 for Van Persie
or Fellaini (if he plays).
163.
164. Zone 2 :
1. If the playmaker is free ,he is the primary catalizator and
constructor of every action. The phase of constructions is
developing :
1.1 tries to find one of the central midfielders or the
trequartista in Zone 3 ,between the lines.
1.2 moves the ball on the flanks, for the offensive fullbacks in
Zone 2/3
1.3 makes a long diagonal/vertical pass for one of the strikers ,
who attacks in depth.
2. If he is marked , the same duties pass on one of the wide
central defenders (depending on the side ,where the action
takes place).
2.1 tries to find one of the central midfielders or the
trequartista in Zone 3 ,between the lines.
2.2 moves the ball on the flanks, for the offensive fullbacks in
Zone 2/3
2.3 makes a long diagonal/vertical pass for one of the strikers ,
who attacks in depth.
3. If he is marked, the entire rhomboid moves in Zone 2, for
help in construction phase with two duties :
3.1 tries to find the trequartista between the lines in Zone 3.
3.2 moves the ball on the flanks in Zone 3 for the offensive full
backs
181. Zone 3 :
*In the situations where the opponent is playing closed
defensive football, the entire team barycentre moves in
Zone 3 , with high defensive line.
1. If the filtrate pass is positive, the actions develops :
1.1 attack directly the opponent's central defenders and
shoot on the goal in Zone 4 ( great shooters).
1.2 filtrate diagonal/vertical pass for the strikers
1.3 enlargement of the action on the flanks for the
offensive fullbacks.
182.
183.
184.

189.
190.
191.
192.
193.
194.
195.
196.
197. 2. If the action is developing on the flanks, they create
Dynamical-Imaginary triangles, rhomboideus or pentagon
for lateral numerical superiority for eventual lateral
insertions ,crosses or moving the ball in the free central
zone :
2.1 DYNAMICAL-IMAGINARY TRIANGLES :
2.1.1 fullback + central midfielder + trequartista
2.1.2 fullback + playmaker + central midfielder
2.1.3 fullback + striker + central midfielder
2.1.4 fullback + striker + trequartista

215. 2.2 DYNAMICAL-IMAGINARY RHOMBOIDEUS :
2.2.1 full back + central midfielder + trequartista +
playmaker
2.2.2 full back + central midfielder + trequartista +
striker
2.3. Dynamical -Imaginary Pentagon (in rare cases) :
2.3.1 full back + central midfielder + playmaker +
trequartista + striker
216.
217.
218.
219.
220.
221.
222.
223.
224. Zone 4 :
1. Central Zone :
1.1 shoot on goal
1.2 filtrate vertical pass for one of the
strikers
1.3 enlargement on the flanks for the
offensive fullbacks.
225.
226.
227.
228.
229.
230.
231. 2. Lateral Zone :
2.1 Creating cross and lateral insertions through
lateral numerical superiority :
2.1.1 One of the strikers attacks the first post,
the other the second post. The trequartista is
attacking centrally from behind. The central
midfielder and the opposite fullback wait for
eventual second balls. If Fellaini plays like
central midfielder ,attacks centrally with the
trequartista (thanks to his aerial domination).
232.
233.
234.
235.
236.
237.
238.
239.
240.
241.
242. SPECIFIC ASPECTS OF THE OFFENSIVE
PHASE :
1. The ''trequartista'' has movement liberty , but
often wants the ball between the lines.
2. On of the central midfielders , in Zone2/3
moves the ball in the empty opposite flank with
long diagonal/vertical pass (often Rooney ).
3. The central midfielders (often Rooney and Di
Maria) are looking one of the strikers(who
attacks in depth : Van Persie with specific
movement) with long diagonal pass.
4. If Di Maria plays like left central midfielder, he
stays often wide on the flank ,with accentred
movements in some game segments.
5. When the central defenders are suffering the
opponent's pressure, they try to find the strikers
in Zone 3/4.
243. 6. If in the 4-4-2 Diamond, Di Maria is playing
like left central midfielder and Rojo like left
fullback, then the system very easily can change
in 3-4-1-2 : with accentred move from Rojo (in
the defensive line) , wide movement on the
flank from Di Maria and vertical movement of
the right full back (in midfield line).
7. The central defenders, often participate in
Zone 2/3 for creating a numerical superiority.
In this cases they try a long diagonal pass for
the striker(who attacks in depth) or the free
opposite fullback.
8. The full backs often attack symmetrically on
the flanks, but sometimes ,depending of the
opponent's qualities they are positioned
asymmetrically.
245. 2. CM changing the game on the empty free flank
3. CM looking the ST with long diagonal pass
7. CB in Zone 3 looking the ST in Zone 4 with long diagonal pass
246.
247.
248.
249.
250.
251.
252.
253.
254. 4. Di Maria playing wide in the central midfield rhomboid
256. DEFENSIVE PHASE :
1. They defend with very short and compact 4-4-2
(a short rectangle).
2. The central midfielders move wide ,the ''trequartista
drops down creating a 4-4-2.
3. Physically strong and dominant in aerial duels.
4. The central midfielders cover and help the fullbacks.
5. If the opponent is playing with two strikers, the
playmaker covers the central defenders, which are zone
marking.
6. If Blackett plays like central defender, Rojo plays like
left fullback for covering and helping him.
7. MIDFIELD MAN MARKING
8. Pressing : is the same pressing style from 3-5-2 :
medium. The midfield man marking is blocking the
opponent's playmaker/s. The strikers are blocking the
pass trajectories for the opponent's fullbacks putting
passive pressing on the ball carrier , leaving him free for
construction (central defender : low technique qualities).
277. 5. DM is covering the defenders (two opponent strikers)
6. Blackett central defender, Rojo left fullback
278. 7. And 8. MIDFIELD MAN MARKING AND MEDUIM PRESSING
279.
280.
281.
282.
283.
284. 4. The central midfielders are helping and covering the full
backs
285. OFFENSIVE TRANSITION :
-They attack with 5/6 men :
1. If they steal the ball in Zone 2/3 centrally, they
attack immediately with two central midfielders +
the strikers + the ''trequartista''.
1.1 The action develops via the central zones with
vertical passes and eventual enlargement on the
flanks with lateral insertions from behind.
2. If the steal the ball laterally, participate the same
players + the fullback.
2.1 The action develops with long vertical diagonal
pass for one of the strikers, filtrate central pass for
the ''trequartista'' or attack via the flank.
3. If the ball is taken in Zone 4 or in the end of
Zone3 ,immediately vertical pass for the strikers.
293. DEFENSIVE TRANSITION :
-The weakness of every big squad ,which wants to
dominate the game.
-If the defensive transition is positive, the team will
never suffer from opponent's offensive transition.
The only weakness is if the defensive transition is
negative.
-When their team barycentre is high in Zone 3 , they
