Results from the Surveying Prisoner Crime Reduction (SPCR) longitudinal cohort study of
prisoners
“A high level of prisoners
report a problem with
substance misuse. In the
SPCR survey 64% reported
using drugs and 22% said they
drank alcohol every day in the
month prior to custody: both
these groups had a higher
reconviction rate. Those with
substance misuse issues have
also been found to be more
likely to have accommodation
needs.”
