Introduction

Does technology always live up to its promises?
           Cars were supposed to make it easy to get away from it all.
           Television was supposed to bring families closer for quality time together.
           New household appliances were supposed to increase free time and cut
            back on time spent doing chores.


      But the reality is that none of these promises made by the inventors
       have really happened.

Word Skill: Adverbs

 Use an adverb to modify a verb or adjective. Many
   adverbs are formed by adding –ly to an adjective:

                     Intellectual   Intellectually

                     Social         Socially
                     Spiritual      Spiritually

Grammar Snapshot: Order of Modifiers

 When using more than one modifier (adjectives,
   determiners etc.) you must keep this order:

   1st Determiners (articles /pronouns): a, an, the, this, my, etc.)
   2nd Ordinals: First, second, twentieth etc.
   3rd Quantifiers: one, a few, some, many.
   4th Adjectives: Small, back, big etc.

   5th Nouns (student, door, book, etc.)

 When using adjectives before the noun, follow this order:

   1.     Size (small, big)
   2.     Opinion (pretty, stupid)
   3.     Age (old, young)
   4.     Shape (round, square)
   5.     Color (black, red)
   6.     Origin (American, Chinese)
   7.     Material (leather, silk)
