Can't afford a fancy international summer retreat? We have your back with over 80 different local eats, drinks, and outdoors destinations to enjoy this summer throughout New York and New Jersey that'll have you enjoying the season in style.
2. CONTRARY TO POPULAR BELIEF, NOT EVERYONE IN NEW
YORK HAS A SUMMER HOUSE IN SOUTHAMPTON.
FURTHERMORE, SUMMER AROUND THESE PARTS IS PRETTY
RAD IF YOU CAN GET AROUND SWELTERING SUBWAYS AND
THE SMELL OF BOILING HOT GARBAGE. HERE, WE’VE
COMPILED SEVERAL SUMMER GO-TOS THROUGHOUT NEW
YORK AND NEW JERSEY TO KEEP YOU SANE WHILE BINGE
WATCHING INSTAGRAM STORIES OF YOUR FRIEND’S
VACATION IN SANTORINI.
3. When you think of summer, you probably think of tropical island
getaways, frozen drinks, swimming in salty water. It’s easy to forget that
despite the sweaty commutes and hustle and bustle, Manhattan is also
an island that's capable of providing you with all those things, the best
the season has to offer. With restaurants, parks, and watering holes
capable of bringing the summer sun to the big city, you don’t need a
plane ticket to get those island vibes you’re longing for.

While you can easily get your hands on a lobster roll in most parts
of Manhattan, North River Lobster Co. is the only place where you
can get a lobster roll while bobbing atop the Hudson River. The
largest floating lobster shack in NYC features fresh seafood, light
fare, mason jar cocktails, buckets of beer, and a raw bar. It’s a
laid-back, casual atmosphere with great views of Midtown, and
each lobster roll comes with a quick cruise that’s included with
price of food and drinks.

Given the nondescript entrance underneath a random handbag store in

Project was able to pull off one of the best backyard patios in the city
as well. It’s a hip hang with enough space to handle large parties, but
only if you get there early. It routinely fills up fast, so don’t strut in
around sunset with five friends in tow and expect to be seated
immediately. Unless you’re Barack Obama, in that case, you’re

12. Rooftops are a curious thing in Manhattan. On one hand, you
have access to some of the best views in the entire United
States — the New York City skyline. On the other hand, you’ll
be surrounded by 28-year-old hedge fund managers and EDM
bros who worship at the altar of Diplo. Depending on how you
roll, this may be a deal breaker. But if you can let it slide, here’s
a list of rooftops you’ll want to bookmark.
