 Help to maintain healthy and

problems - like psoriasis,
eczema, acne etc by sodhana
(eliminating root cause of
disease)

 EPIDERMIS
 Top most and thin layer
 Seat of melanocytes - melanin
 DERMIS
 Middle layer of skin
 Thicker than epidermis
 SUB-CUTANEOUS TISSUE
 Innermost layer
 Regulates body temperature
 Seat of sense organ - Tactile sensation (touch, pain temperature,
pressure etc)
 Seat of complexion
 Mirror to an individual’s health
 Largest organ – Insulation to underlying muscles and organs
 Major role in synthesis of Vitamin D
 Protects the body from infections
 Performs excretory and metabolic functions
 Maintains beauty and personality
 Prevents entry of harmful chemicals and invading organisms such
as bacteria and virus
 Balances heat or humidity variations – (upto 5° variation does not
matter.)
FUNCTIONS
 7 layers
 Located not merely in periphery, but extend up to
deeper levels
 So skin disease have deep rooted cause
 So remedies have to be penetrative.
 Most skin treatments are generally external
applications like creams or oils. These, however,
never reach the deeper layers of the skin.
 Ayurvedic formulations – both internal and external –
positively influence the multiple layers of skin
IMPORTANCE

Wrong lifestyle.

How Ayurveda approaches skin
diseases?
RESTORATION OF DOSHIC BALANCE (HEALTH) IS THE
ULTIMATE GOAL OF AYURVEDIC TREATMENT.

Chemical energy)

Daily Habits that will Keep your Skin
Looking Younger
1. Drink water: Drink 2 – 3 liters of water everyday.
Staying hydrated helps your body flush out skin-
damaging toxins.
2. Sleep: It’s called “beauty rest” for a reason. Go to
sleep before midnight for 7-8 hours.
3. Relieve stress: When you’re stressed out, your
body releases “stress toxins.” These toxins can
trigger illness and skin breakouts. Relax with
deep breathing, walking or reading
