ABSTRACT/ BACKGROUND.
This day will go down in my history as a very remarkable and amazing one.
This morning as I started my way to the shower with this song in my mind
“uphi umhlobo onje ngo Jesu.”, it was the morning of the 19 December 2009.
A clear comparison between two people appeared in the Spirit. I do not know
why this comparison, I do not know the inner history of the other man but the
other was in the Bible; in the book of Esther. The Holy Spirit gave me this
comparison: “J.G. Zuma; the Mordecai of our time!” It was so clear, yet so
remarkable; not visible, yet so intriguing. I was suppose to go to work; at
Ekurhuleni, where I was facing challenges which always depressing me, so I
could not put this revelation on power but I related to my wife who wanted to
know why Mordecai and who is this Mordecai to be compared to J.G. Zuma or
J2, but I could not give her more.
The same evening I tried to put the story on paper, because the more I
wanted to forget about it, the Holy Spirit pushed me, made the story so
interesting that I felt how selfish I would be if I did not share it. So I started
with my research without any source except for the Bible and my general
knowledge of the Man of our Time, JZ.

When King Nebcadnezar of Babilon captured the Nation of Israel, a young man
watched as his family was punished and killed. The young man survived the horrors
of slavery and he took into his fold a young woman, born from his niece called
Abihail, this young man was called Mordecai son of Jair and this young woman
whom he adopted as his daughter was called Hassodar Esther; well figured,
attractive and very beautiful.
When the Queen of Babylon, Vashti, wife of King Xerxes, disrespected her husband
by refusing to adhere to his request, all young women who were virgins, beautiful
and attractive were chosen to be prepared to be paraded before the King to choose
a wife. Mordecai advised his adopted daughter not to reveal her identity as she was
also taken to the palace. She won the favour of Hegai who was to prepare her for
the exposure by trainings and treatments; amazingly she was given the best place to
stay as well as seven girls to serve her. A servant is being served, a captive is
treated as a queen already, and Mordecai would walk to and from the palace court
and just to see if Esther was getting on well or what was the situation, Esther was
chosen as the Queen and somehow the King appointed Mordecai to an
administrative position in the palace office.
Jacob Gedleyihlekisa Zuma, is a man who did not have any formal education, he
comes from a low tribe of the Zulu nation. He saw all the suffering of his family, his
nation, but also saw the suffering of all those who are black, Indian and coloured in
South Africa. As he tried to make ends meet by working as a labourer, he was
introduced to labour movements and to liberation movement, the African National
Congress. Though he did not have any tertiary education, his strong family values
and grounded upbringing brought attention from the leadership of the movement and
was forced to be a fore front of the struggle, which led to arrests and his leading this
country to fight from outside. He became a man in the center of the strategising
committee of the African National Congress and on the dismantling of Apartheid; he
was given a sincor porition in the provincial government where he spearheaded the
peaceful, stabilisation of province which was called the “brother eating-brother”
province of South Africa – KwaZulu Natal.
He helped stabilize the province and settled the African National Congress well into
the hearts and homes of those who feared persecution and being killed by other
political organisations. He helped to brocker peace between the president of
Inkatha Freedom Party and the leadership of the ANC provincially and nationally.
The Kingdom of the Zulu nation was able to be claimed as for all AmaZulu and not
for a section. Yes, those who are opportunistic used the humble, generous, ground
to earth attitude of this man to their advantage. He instilled fear to those in the
leadership of the ANC as a threat to porition.

I asked the Spirit of God for guidance in order to clearly, openly lay the comparison
between the two men. Two men, who are totally different by generations. Two men,
who are totally world apart by knowledge; nationality, birth and life, yet, nearly similar
by sufferings, way of living and the rise to power.
1. INTRODUCTION
The more I got the similarities and differences I was pushed to keep on writing.
Today is Sunday, I am going to work, I should work for six hours as pre-planned but
ag, I will work only four hours so that I can go to church. My mind starts to be
worried and run amok just at the thought of going to my work. That is a book for
another time. My God and Father, help me understand your objective of this book I
am to complete: “JZ, the Mordecai of our time.”
I went to work, and then went to church. I related this story to uArch Bishop, but, he
could not grasp the momentum I am on. I tried to give just the brief of the story and
he seems to be, well, astonished if that is the right word. That made me to again
wonder about this comparison. But then the Holy Spirit showed me a shorter Thabo
Mvuyelwa Mbeki leading a more taller and bigger man to the podium; so clear that I
recognised that this was the Polokwane conference of the ANC where J.G. Zuma
took over the reigns of the Presidency while Kgalema Mothlanthe proceeded as the
Presidency of the country. I realised that another comparison has been made
available between Mordecai of the Bible and J.G. Zuma of our Times.
Mordecai the son of Jair was now well placed in the palace, he did not need to walk
to and from in order to check on the well being of the daughter who is now the
Queen and amazingly or surprisingly; her identity is still not known. In the mist of
such transformation, Mordecai over heard what two office bearers were discussing.
They were planning an assassination of none – other but the King of Babylon. I
cannot say if his actions were prompted by his now relation to the King but Mordecai
could not rejoice and be happy that his people’s oppressor would be killed, he
warned the King about the plot. Mordecai was foreigner and he raised eye brows by
reporting the Kings country men, so the matter had to be investigated – sure enough,
it was proved to be the truth, the two noble men killed.
This was a very big deed, if it was in our days he would be given a medal, a
promotion and and, and. Mordecai was foreigner, a captive and a slave so; all his
efforts were not recognised. The man meant well, as I analyse the event, I
questioned my vocabulary on why did miss this aspect? I tried to justify that this
was not mentioned in the Holy Book, again, is this not really the most disgusting
observance.
A man reported a plot to kill the King but is not recognised. A man saves the life of a
King and he is just noted into the History books but not rewarded. The Holy Spirit
6
woke me up as to the reasoning of this book. Yes, how does President Zuma
become the Mordecai, a captive Jew of our time?
UMsholozi, the clan name of Jacob Gedleyihlekisa Zuma became the Deputy
President of the country as well as that of the ANC when the legendary Nelson
Rolihlahla Mandela stepped down into retirement. He was definitely at Luthuli House
as well as the presidents’ palace. I can remember that most important tasks given to
Jacob (I want to use this name as I am using the name of Mordecai. As an African I
am proud of my African name: Mayaya, though my mother did not use it for her
reason.)
As the deputy President Jacob stabilised the province of Kwa-Zulu Natal even better.
He was given tasks to brocker peace in these continents countries such as Zambia,
Ghana, Sudan etc. To my small or limited knowledge, he started the talks; he gained
the trust of those involved and maintained the discussions. South Africa was put on
the map, yes countries looked to the South for solutions in conflicts, solution to
country man against another and not because of the popularity of the legend
Mandela, but because of the experience knowledge and determination of Jacob. His
humble attitude in dealing with challenges was training him for the future. His
“never-let-die” attitude made states men trust him, made political analysts recognise
his strength in negotiations.
Ah, now we see the resemblance. Was Jacob rewarded for putting the Mbeki
government on the map? Is there any event of recognition for all his efforts,
successor? Not that I can remember, except all this and other events were in his
history books, books written about him of course.
Though he was not rewarded, people, ordinary people noted and appreciated his
efforts. Working class and those who are classified as low class, uneducated would
rise to honour and defend him. I want to believe that these events were not planned
by any person, but devine power and intervention had a hand in the rise of those
who saw positive where most people in higher position – saw negative; ordinary
people, hungry and wanting people saw a rise of a defender, a promise and hope for
the future. People inside the ANC, COSATU, SACP and Youth leagues started to
rise up for the one who could not be rewarded, recognised, but not yet, the walk was
still very fresh and had to be exhausted mentally, physically and indeed spiritually.
I need to freshen up. I wish I could read about Jacob, get more of what he was no
recognised for, but this book is about what the Holy Spirit will feed me with. I must
read the book of Esther and he (The Holy Spirit) will feed me about Jacob, will
remind me of things I have overlooked. Well, my real source is the Bible and greatly
the Holy Spirit, you are getting more bored, you want the fiction but this book is not
about the work of the mind, imagination. The book will show the miracle working
God at work. He says: “I have known you by name before you were born.” Jo! I
must not start preaching.

2. THE RISE OF ENEMIES AND ALLEGATION
There was a rich man at that time in the Kingdom of Babylon by the name of
Naaman of the origin of Agar. That person was appointed the prime minister by
King Xerxes. Now the occurance happens when Esther was already a Queen and
Mordecai in the palace administration. Naaman wanted fame, demanded respect
and was very boastful.
When Naaman walked the streets of the kingdom, people would kneel, others bowed
down in showing respect for the man. This was a norm and all people, the
community knew this, so when an Israel captive did not do the same, they wanted to
find out the reason. Mordecai answered: “I cannot bow down to any man; I have on
God whom I bowed down to.” They had to talk to someone about this, the man
Mordecai was defying the Kings orders, but some people wanted to know how
Haman would react. The motive here was not to have Mordecai do as they did, but
to sow a bigger and effective gap between the two men. In my mind, it seems like
nothing major. I am awakening to some depressing matters.
Were they aware of enimnity between these two men? Were they aware of anything
which would challenge Naaman? Is it possible that they identify leadership in
Mordecai which they do not see in Haman?
Well, they approached Naaman and told him about Mordecai conduct. I want to
believe that Haman never noticed this conduct before the report. Esther 3:4 relates:
“Day after day they spoke to him (Mordecai) but he refused to comply. Therefore
they told Haman about it to see whether Mordecai’s behaviour would be tolerated,
for he told them he was a Jew.”
Now another question rises to my mind in that would they have reported this matter if
Mordecai was not a Jew? Jews were now like citizens in that country, they had
probably inter-married, but looks like Xenophobia was still clearly visible.
The reaction of Haman when he saw that this Jew would not honour him was of
rage. Not being angry but enraged, he learnt that Mordecai was of the Jew nation;
he was determined and eager to destroy the whole people of Jew origin. He started
planning his project, just because of one man’s action – a whole nation would be
destroyed. He isolately selected a date and month in which these people including
Mordecai would be destroyed, and then asked the King for a proclamation for a
prize. Haman influenced the King on reasons of religions and customs to kill these
people. Esther 3:9 “If it pleases the King, let a decree be issued to destroy the Jews,
AND I will put 340 tons of silver into the royal treasury for the men to carry out these
businesses”
Jo! This man was more than rich; he would pay the Babylon soldiers to carry out his
vendetta; just to destroy Mordecai. He was really of the Devil. The Bible says: The
devil is a LIAR, KILLER AND A DESTROYER. Now you should not be surprised
when you are faced with not only loss of you work, but divorce follows then are
arrested for something you do not know! We not finished with the challenges of
Mordecai. The King sealed the proclamation using his ring. That is to confirm that
the Jews on this date and months would be killed, exterminated and Haman would
not only have Killed Mordecai, but destroyed his family, relatives and nation. After
the decree by the king messengers were dispatched to all provinces, governors and
8
noblemen with the scripts written in the name of the king and sealed in his own
name. The decreed order was to “destroy, kill and annihilate all the Jews.” Esther
3:13; all young and old, women children on one single day. Haman has succeeded
on paper, his project was on track. Mordecai heard and read about this, he tore his
clothes, put ashes and wailed loudly and bitterly. He went to the gate since he
worked in the place, but people in sack clothes were not allowed further, all Jews
cried, mourned and put ashes on themselves. The queen heard about this
especially how Mordecai her father is, she was in total distress, she called a servant
to go and get the whole story of which the script was brought to her, through a
messenger or servant Mordecai urged Esther to beg the king for mercy. She knew
that she could not just bust into the presence of the King unless summoned,
otherwise she would be killed, but Mordecai sent a massage “Do not think that you
will be spared because you are in the Kings palace, maybe, you were brought into
palace for this reason. “A big prayer session started of fasting and intercession
among all Jews that God may spare and protect Esther as she prepares to approach
the king. Three days of fasting and prayer finished with the Queen in the inner court
of the palace, standing right in front of the royal throne facing the King, and the king
was pleased with her; a gold sceptre was held out towards her and she approached,
touched the tip. The King asked the queen what her request was. Esther requested
that the King grace her by coming to a dinner prepared for him with Haman. When
this news was given to Haman, man, was he happy that day; in high spirits was he
when he left the palace only to be disappointed and filled with rage on the sight – of
Mordecai who showed no respect or fear of Haman. He controlled himself and went
home.
3. THE RISE OF A MAN
Haman called his friends in the presence if his wife he boasted about his wealth,
family, position and that he was the only man to be invited by the Queen with the
King. “But all this gives me no satisfaction as long as I see that Jew Mordecai sitting
at the Kings’ gate” Esther 5:13. NIV. The man feels hate and anger about a person
who is but his worker, subordinate, worse not in his office but at the gate? His wife
and friends advised him to erect a gallows 23 meter high, where Mordecai could be
hanged. This made Haman happy and without the knowledge of the king, the
gallows were erected that night.
The same night the King Xerxes could not sleep, he tossed and turned, walked
about his palace but could not get himself to sleep. He ordered that the book of
Chronicles be brought to him; this book had all records of events during his reign.
The record of Mordecai’s deed was found and the king wanted to know how
Mordecai was honoured and rewarded, He was told that nothing was done. The king
wanted to know if any of his high official was around the palace, and it was reported
that Haman is in, as it was not the next morning and Haman wanted to “speak to the
king about hanging Mordecai on the gallows he erected for him” Esther 6:4. NIV.
The King ordered that he comes in.
The King asked Haman to advise him on how a man can be shown honour and be
rewarded by the king. Now Haman’s pride and arrogance took over; he only
identified one person who could be honoured and rewarded by the King: Haman
himself so: “Have your servants bring a royal robe which the king wears, a horse the
9
king rides which has a royal crest on the forehead. Let these robes and horse be
entrusted to this man, led by the Kings’ noblest person in the city proclaiming” This is
what is done for the man the king delights to honour. “Esther 6:7-9 the king said to
Haman” Go at once, get those robes and horse just as you suggested, do to
Mordecai, the Jew, you will find him at the gate, do not leave anything you have
suggested. “Esther 6:10. Eish!
Haman was forced to go and take Mordecai his enemy, his subordinate by hand has
him bathed, nourished, clothed and saddle a horse for him. He led this man whom
he hated so much, a man he has already planned to hand on the 23 meter high
gallows on foot through the eighty’s streets and he shouted these words “This is
what is done for the man the king delights to honour” What a humiliation! What a
depressing strike on his ego! The tides of times were turning; a servant was raised
to rule his owner. Is this just coincidence just luck? Or is this when the Lord replies
the cry of those who trust Him?
A man named Shabir Shaik, from the Indian community born South African saw an
opportunity to make more money, succeed in tenders, especially government
tenders by being a friend, advisor to Jacob.
Jacob’s history is amazing as he says that he did not have formal education. Time
and again I see him, he reads scripts, speaks relatively better and exceptional
English, let alone his ability to speak other languages other than isiZulu and English.
So when I heard from the newspapers that Shabir was an advisor, financial advisor, I
accepted that. I also justified this because all parliamentarians of 1994 knew nothing
about government, let alone legislative and financial governance. While Jacob was
elected to deputy president of the ANC, and appointed Deputy President of this
country, a case of corruption, fraud, extortion was put to Shabir Shaik and
companies which dealt with Arms manufacturing and selling. A tender to acquire
fire-arms, aeroplanes, war machines went wrong and it was alleged that Shabir was
involved. At his trial the judgement the called the relationship between Shabir and
Jacob was corrupt and that the money’s Shabir was depositing into Jacob’s account
went beyond advisory matters, but were intended to manipulate the tender.
This was a bomb. The Independent Party pursued this matter, but that Jacob would
be pointed out by the court was not thought of, or I did not want to believe that. The
president of the country recalled and dismissed Jacob on national television. The
scorpions who were the national crime busters and prosecutors prepared charged to
put to Mr J.G. Zuma. We on the ground were not happy. Actually Black South
Africans showed a division in the Msholozi’s plight. Those who thought or undertook
themselves as more educated, more liberal, richer than others sided with the
president of the country, Thabo Mbeki, while the lowest, poorest and those who were
side-lined by the Thabo Mbeki government sided with Jacob. All secrets or things
which were perceived as damaging were brought out. The media went all out to
discredit Jacob. His poor education background, his poor family background, his
lack of intellectual leadership were laid bare for all to read and see, since no
newspaper would not write about him and the news bulletins would not pass without
mentioning something about him. Shabir was sentenced to be in jail as if he killed
someone while the National Prosecuting Authority was applying for search warrant
for Jacobs’s houses, or residences. I think I must just research a bit about Jacob
10
Gedleyihlekisa Zuma, uMsholozi, a man who went and created a name by his song
“Umshini wam’, umshini wam!” Meaning- “my machine gun, my machine gun.”
By now you feel that I am selfish with this information. I went about searching for the
information which will close the gap. Technology has been greatly improved, at a
click of a button you are able to read about whatever, whoever you want to read
about. Here I like the narrated interview with the man himself with a topic: “Jacobs’s
ladder” The writer put Jacob against Dr Gatsha Buthelezi, against Jacobs’s former
wife Nkosazana for the position of deputy president of the country. Jacob got the
deputy presidency indeed and challenges started.
4. THE WOMAN INVOLVED
There was young woman who, is also from the same area where Jacob was born but
came to the city for work. She did know Jacob, how much she knew him, I cannot
deliberate. When the Deputy President was harassed and teased by the media
about Shabir’s case, this woman (I will not say her name, as her identity was kept
secret all along) was found to have asked for a place to sleep over. She arrived at
his Johannesburg home and was allowed to stay. As I write I am amazed as to her
preparedness. She prepared herself for a sleep; she had all the clothes which would
attract Jacob. She had the body which is appealing to him. She allowed him to
massage her, and “ubaba took advantage of me” as he alleged to have raped her.
She could not scream when he started, she could not even inform those in the house
when he went to him room. This was dramatic, so controvential, so much direct. A
man, who is in such a position of power; who had wives, and knew ladies of esteem,
elegance; he knew those in rural areas and he could have had any who is available.
But, he allegedly raped this woman, who conveniently was in his house, who allowed
this man to touch, and rub her, she did not scratch him, she did not struggle with
him, yet he had his way, went to his room, she could not react. She was able to go
to the police station; I cannot remember if it was the very next day, but, she reported
the case. I know that the police do not take such issues on face value. I know that
the police of our time would have called their station commander for advice before
registering the case, yet, amazingly, the police were so good, so compassionate and
responsible, within days Jacob was dragged to court and got a bail in order for the
investigations to finalise, tests to be conducted. Jacob was in the net and the spider
was poised to rap and feed on him. The president said, “a man is innocent until
proven guilty.” Ja! There was no way he could get out of this. The case was
uproar. www.news.bbc.uk/2/hi/africa/4808960.stm. Whoever planned this was very
shrewd:
1. Jacob is umZulu, the girl is also umZulu
2. Jacob is rural, so is the origin of the girl
3. Jacob is not well educated, so was the girl
4. Jacob is not the classy type, so was the girl, am I saying girl?
I meant woman, thousand apologies;
An opportunity arised from those who fought against domestic violence, groups who
were against polygamy, groups who are HIV and AIDS inclined, but this awakens
support by rural woman, workers and low class groups. They went to court with
Jacob, they praid and danced with him and that is where the song took top stage
11
“umshini wam’, mshini wam” His speeches was scrutinised and this story went truly
against Jacob, consuming his passion, his self esteem like fire on a dry veld.
The writer of “Jacobs’s ladder” describes Jacob as “a clean-shaven-bullet like head”
man. His explanation as to what did he do after sex with an HIV infected woman,
gave all news papers the exact ammunition to put him on the cross. Ja! Imagine “I
took a shower.” Newspaper reduced him for a fool, masqueraded him as someone
who cannot be trusted in leadership. If this was surely planned, it looked very
successful up to so far, until the verdict was announced by the judge. “Not, guilty,
however you should have reached a better judgement.”
The National Prosecuting Authority took over the assault on Jacob. More than
seventy charges were placed on him. His homes and offices were raided though not
procedurally, but, they had all the bullets they needed to continue the assault. The
state, led by the NPA branch” Scorpion” collected evidences, they cared less if they
followed the procedure or not whether they violated the constitution or not. Common
people, like me, thought that this corruption case had a motive behind; we wanted
Jacob to come clean and tell all. We knew that, no, we thought and believed that
Jacob was scapegoat for
1. How could Jacob influence tenders as an MEC
2. How can a company trust the influence of a
person not even a Minister of Defence, or
Enterprises?
We thought that someone higher had a hand in this; Shabir was a tool to cover-up
the deep trouble which the opposition parties are looking at deeply.
Jacob did not say anything damaging against the ANC leadership. The only mistake
the Scorpion did was to undermine the power of the working class, under estimate
the faith of those who supported Jacob every time he appeared in a court. I think
they were “destroyed because of the lack of knowledge” The state, scorpions,
detectives and lawyers did not know the power of prayer. I know that they consulted
the ancestral spirits (amadlozi) and also called the God of Heavens for divine
intervention. The courts of this country undermined the determination and courage
of Jacob. They forgot that a boy who was a shepherd will have more courage and
spirit to face challenges than anyone who has never herded cattle, that a boy who
struggled in life, will be more determined and stronger than any person who never
faced difficulties.
The rape case was seen by all those who are looking at things as practical as the
sun shine; that he has been set up. The trial went through its course but we all
rejoiced with Jacob when he was acquitted. His enemies felt let down, whoever
planned this felt the blow. The prayers of Jacob’s supporters and comrades were
heard and answered. The lady was given protection and moved out of sight by the
state, she was called all bad names, lambasted and scolded by all who supported
Jacob but got sympathy from those who were against Jacob and what e stood for. A
cartoonist called went and ensure that Jacob was seen as a demon a Satanist, a
rapist and heathen. Ag! I personally hat what Zapiro or whatever his name is, I hate
the way he takes advantage of people, he should start doing bio nest work instead of
making fun of people. The hypocrite! Enough said of this cartoonist. I still say
12
whatever newspapers, he tried to use to demons Jacob, and it would turn to be the
opposite of what was intended for.
The Nquka and NPA went for the kill now. Search warrants were sought to get more
information to nail Jacobs, as he was gaining more and more support, Jacobs house
was searched and as I have mentioned before, documents, items were taken from
these places, offices of the company involved were also searched. Through the
courts, Jacob won and lost some battles, the search was declared illegal. At that
moment another man rose to prominence in the justice fraternity. Justice Hlophe,
ok, let me identify him correctly Judge Hlophe. This judge rose to prominence due to
his utterances about racism in our courts, judiciary. There are still, those apartheid
officials who still have their segregation and racial agenda. We knew that! I knew
that in some courts; actually most courts, the word of the white person was more
powerful that any honest and sincere word of any other coloured person. The judge
started another debate which prominent people like president Thabo, minister Lekota
would have dismissed and will dismiss. Hey, this issue is very serious; as most rich
and “better” people give the impression that apartheid is gone, dead and buried, it is
not so. The white person is still holding the aces in his hands, financial power,
labour power and technological power. In most government sectors blacks are in the
most top position without the actual foundation and background information of that
department, section or sect. This judge was accused of breaking the judicial conduct
in that he tried to influence other judges as to the dilemma of Jacob is concerned.
Amazingly, during that process when the judge was fighting against other judges,
Jacob was given a major boost, a certain judge ruled that “there was interference in
the charges of Jacob G. Zuma by the state” That Thabo Mbeki was instrumental in
the process. Joo! That was the turning point. Prior to this development; a young
man took over the presidency of the ANC youth league: Julius Malema. We as the
working class have known all Youth league presidents were radical, vocal and
mostly uncontrolled, but this boy was more than that. He started the speeches of
Jacob Zuma; to fight for, Jacob Zuma, to kill for and Jacob Zuma to die for! Labour
and Communists joined forces in the support of Jacob. I always say that God will
use any person, anything, any situation to implement what he want to implement.
When this KZN judge ruled in favour of Jacob Zuma in his judgement, the youth
league, labour movement and communist took over with all those who were
excluded and sidelined by the Mbeki government. Thabo Mbeki was recalled from
the presidency of the country. Kgalema Mothlanthe who was the deputy president
but did not replace Jacob Zuma when he was fired, since Jacob was replaced by
Mrs Mlambo-Ngcuka Phumzile; was placed as the president of the country. “Oh!
How the mighty has fallen” These were the words of David of Israel, the son of Jesse
on the death of King Saul and Jonathan his friend.
President Thabo Mbeki stepped down in what I call “a ceremonial, respectable”
manner. He had his dignity intact, his self respect protected though his mother did
not take it lying down. There was a major shake down in the government, prominent
people; I mean officials resigned from their position; e.g. Mosioua Lekota, Phumzile
Mlambo-Ngcuka etc and though not so many people mention this mars’ name
(Martinus van Schalkwyk) who was the leader of the then National Party stayed put.
The trials went forth. It was one appeal after the other; as we always say. Then
there was the time for the National Conference of the ANC. In this meetings
13
positions are fought for, oh, I mean in the democratic way – vote of course. The
presidency, general secretary, the chairperson are the most important influential of
all positions in the ANC organisation, while Thabo Mbeki is still the president of the
organisation, most people like myself wanted him out; I have my own reasons
because I want progress, transformation and change. I did not actually get that from
the presidency of Mbeki. The conference raised fears and hopes of people in
different circles. I think the enthusiasm was so much that even the media intensified
their smear campaign, but other people were also strategising on what to do after the
conference.
5. BREAKTHROUGH
Yes, as much as Mordecai fasted and prayed with all Israel, Juda Nation for survival,
the supporters and comrade of Jacob himself prayed and hoped for success and that
things will benefit those who feel oppressed. The conference was here! Haman, the
enemy of the Hebrew people, was devastated to say the least. The Bible give the
History that after the parade he went home very sad and felt defeated, but the
tormenting words were from his friends and family Hester 6:13 “... if Mordercai is a
descended of the Jews, and you have begun to fall under him, sure you shall not
survive his take over!” These words were like swords into his flesh, if he felt any
strength, they took that away.
King Xerxes sent his people to come and collect Haman for the dinner as invited by
the queen. At the gate, he passed the man he hates so much, the man he paraded
as honoured. I want to imagine that he consoled himself by that part, as Haman, he
was still going to the palace, going to dine with the King and Queen. Mordecai was
back to his rags as he was still fasting for the survival of the Jewish people but he
had to work too. Dinner was prepared, guests were only the body guards, servants
and the royal house – King and Queen.
At the table the king raised the question to the Queen, remember that she requested
the audience of the king while it was not her time to be in the Kings presence. The
king asked the queen: “What is your petition? It shall be done for you? Is there
anything you need? Even half the kingdom will be granted to you if you wish?” The
kings heart was aligned to the Queen, he was prepared to listen to his wife’s need
and want. The Queen opened her mouth and spoke: “My petition is for my life, that I
may live and my request is to be spared the life of my people!” The queen went
further to explain that the lives of her people and eventually her life, was sold for a
prize. They are to be exterminated, totally destroyed. The king got a shock of his
life as he wanted to know the person who could want to kill the queen with all her
family and her people. Can you just put yourself first in the shoes of Esther; you
have the kings stamped proclamation in your hand, which states clearly and directly
that you are to be killed, not buried but exterminated without trace, if you had a child,
the child must be killed, if you had a grandchild, that would also be killed, destroyed
and totally made to disappear from the face of this earth and you are asking for
pardon from that very king, that is ironic and frightening, but, let me give a worse
situation.
Haman knew immediately that the queen was referring to something he had
something to do with, but could not put that into his mind that she is related to
14
Mordecai. Haman never knew that the queen is a Jew and that he had requested
the king to proclaim the killing of the king’s wife, he planned the distraction of the
queen, he plotted the extermination of the king’s wife – Jo! What a blunder! “My
people are destroyed due to the lack of knowledge.” One passage expresses the
point. In SeSotho we say “Go se tsebe ke kotsi” meaning lack of knowledge is
dangerous. The queen pointed Haman, and said: “This is the enemy of my people,
the person who planned for my distraction, I would not have complained if it was
slavery, but her we to be killed and exterminated! Please have mercy on us!” The
king leaped from his chair, stepped out of the dining place. What a shock! Haman
could not hold or control himself; he fell down at the feet of the queen to request for
mercy, maybe to clarify the point. It was at that time when the King returned to find
Haman at eh feet of the queen and cried “is this man going to physically attack my
wife right here, in my palace?’
Here comes trouble the body guards told the king about the pole erected by Haman
where Mordecai was to be hanged in the presence of the queen. The King ordered
that Haman be hanged on the same pole erected for Mordecai. The palace officials
to hold of Haman and escorted him to be executed by hanging. All Haman’s
property was put under the authority of Mordecai, the Jew Esther told the king of her
relation to Mordecai, and the King raised Mordecai to his second in command, the
position which was held by Haman, the enemy of the Jewish people. Mordecai was
given the stamp ring which was held by Haman of which he (Haman) used to write
the letters which informed all nations about the extermination of the Jewish people in
Babylon. Mordecai used the same ring to proclaim that Jews will defend themselves
when attacked. Mordecai, a Jew a captive, a gate keeper rose to the second highest
position in Babylon, he moved from the gate right into the palace, from being a slave
captive to being a captor. Is it luck, fortune or fate??
Polokwane in the Northern Province of South Africa became a talk of the moment.
The ruling party was going to elect new leadership, remember that the present
leader, president at the African National Congress was still Thabo Mvuyelwa Mbeki.
The president of the country was Kgalema Mothlanthe, who was seen as the unifying
force in the organisation.
The tradition of the African National Congress is an amazing once. After all debates,
deliberations, the election would take place. The procedure was when you held a
position and was dusted, you have to go and take the new holder, incumbent of that
position by hand, and bring the person to the stage and sit him or her on you
previous position and chair. Do if you were the secretary-general or deputy-
president in the organisation and that position was contested; if you lose, you would
be compelled to go to the floor, take the person who won the election by hand, walk
back to the stage and let the person sit where you were while you go back to the
floor.
In Polokwane, the time for electing leadership came and though Thabo Mbeki had
two terms, he still wanted to go for the third; he had branches that supported him in
that move. Treasures were elected, office bearers and the time forth top post came;
the Presidency of the ANC. The fight went down to two people, Thabo Mbeki and
Jacob Zuma. You should not lose sight of the fact that the corruption case was still
running. Questions were being asked with the Youth league standing firm that Jacob
15
Zuma is for presidency. It was this matter that made this Polokwane Conference to
have so many resolutions called as Polokwane Resolutions. The Mathew Phosa of
old was brought back in this conference. Qwede Mantashe, Tokyo Sixwale, Jersi
Duarte came alive and took centre stage, yet, the whole world was still awaiting to
see who takes over as president.
If Thabo retains, what would be the outcome, in fighting’s, declaration of war? Why?
What if Jacob wins? How would he be accepted internationally? How will he lead
the organisation but not be the president? How can he be the president while he still
accused with all these cases of corruption?
It was in the afternoon when I saw the news! “JACOB GEZEYIHLEKISA ZUMA –
THE NEW PRESIDENT OF THE ANC” As per tradition, the national television and
other channels showed the takeover. Just as Haman paraded Mordecai while
honoured by the king, Thabo Mbeki went to the floor, took Jacob by the hand, and
led him onto the pavilion and stage. The taller structure of Jacob hovered over
Thabo and he was placed among those nominated, Thabo hugged Jacob, and just
as Haman went home sad and demoralised, Thabo returned to the floor a lone
figure, he looked very alone, sad, like he has been scolded for doing something
wrong. Haman went to his home, but Thabo was still in the conference. I cannot in
all fairness speculate what Thabo’s close supporters said to him at that time or later.
The Bible says that Haman’s wife and friends told him that it looks like he has lost
against his opposition for good.
A song took over just when Thabo went back to the floor:”Awu lethu’ mshini wam!
Mshini wam!”The whole place exploded as the commentator took over and went to
other news. Jacob took over the presidency of an organization; the question in every
person’s mind and lips was “Will Jacob Zuma takes over as president of South
Africa? How is he going to escape the court charges? “These questions were not
just for the country but the whole continent and the world. Jacob is eventually the
president of the most powerful, largest and oldest organisation in South Africa –
ANC, but the battle was not yet over.
In the bible, Haman was hanged, while Mordecai ascended to the position of Haman.
The book of Hester tells us that the King agreed to sign a declaration that the Jews
can defend and protect themselves, that Haman Agag’s family was wiped off the
face of the earth by Mordecai and his soldiers.
Jacob has not yet ascended the throne of presidency of the country, the ANC agreed
to have a care-taker presidents until all charges and allegations are seen through.
The court must decide if Jacob is guilty or not. He cannot ascend the throne while
the cloud of corruption hands on his head.
The NPA appealed to have the outcome of Durban / Pietermaritzburg outcome
turned upside down. “What has to be will be?” I always say our lives and successes
or failures are not just cut and dry, it is not up to us, our enemies to succeed or fail,
there is a Higher Order controlling the fate of man, family and a country.
I have seen history take place because of one person, regardless of his upbringing,
background – the lives of many are affected by this man’s actions, or presence. As
16
courts, trials and appeals took place, the ANC youth league and South African
Communist Party with the Congress of South African Trade Unions, supported Jacob
all the way. Julius Malema – the leader of the Youth League became the voice, the
frontline of this conviction that Jacob will be the president of this Country after
Kgalema Mothlanthe. The young man was given all kinds of names just as Jacob
was; from being an illiterate, skunk, womaniser etc., but he stood his ground. The
most credible and interesting thing was the supporters loyalty, determination and
passion as they accompanied Jacob to each appearance. Jacob was still at the
gate, not in the palace area.
Mr Mokotedi Mpshe has been appointed as the Acting Director of Public Prosecution
when the husband of the then Deputy President Ngcuka stepped down, I cannot
remember if he was fired or he resigned; the Acting DPP continued where the former
have left off but some sincerity was there. An enquiry was adopted and indeed
some facts came out:
1. That there was evidence that the NPA has interfered in the case
2. That the then President knew of plans to prosecute Jacob
3. Jacob has been targeted for ulterior motives.
At this point we were already facing the new elections. A new party emerged in
South Africa with high ranking ANC officials: Mbazima Shilowa – whom I call the
singer who sang to premiership, Terror Lekota whom I always thought he was not
present at crucial moments when most of his comrades were killed, maimed and
tortured. How lucky is this man? Oh, yes he was detained; he says he was tortured
in his biography. Terror gave most people in South Africa the impression that he
was sent by Thabo Mbeki to form this new party: Congress of the People (COPE)
but to this day as I write this bookie Mbeki has never came out publicly to support
COPE, maybe I read less.
The formation of this COPE, created a vibrant atmosphere to us all. I want to believe
that those who would not have voted stood up to prove a point. Jacob and the
Tripartite Alliance went all out to canvass woe and call on loyal supporters as well as
sense to prevail in those who have become ignorant. Yes, Jacob won even the
heart of the most powerful, most loved and popular statesman – Rolihlahla Nelson
Mandela – Madiba, who made it to two rallies where Jacob was to speak, to the
criticism of Zuma by others.
Media came out with all the accusations of abuse, opportunistic statements that the
old man was forced or kidnapped to be at those rallies. Political parties especially
Terror’s COPE and Democratic Party painted a very sad side that Jacob has no
respect or does not care about the elderly, they did not win, and actually I say they
failed.
Then, we were awoken to a day of wonder a day of ululating and of sadness as
Mokotedi called a press conference, Mpshe, the acting Director of prosecution.
“The National Prosecuting Authority is withdrawing all the corruption charges against
Gedleyihlekisa Jacob Zuma and the others.” The statement went about on media.
17
Jo! Jo! Jo! Man! What a day that was, I wanted that; like I wanted to kiss my wife the
day she came to see me at the hospital, but she was more concerned about my
health to give me that “deep kiss” – I did not care if this was orchestrated or pre-
planned for Jacob’s presidency. The stage changed for good, or was it for worse?
The stage prepared itself for the actors to begin with their roles. The ANC, COSATU
and SACP kept the ball rolling – the former premier of Mpumalanga, Mathew Phosa
emerged. The former premier of Limpopo (Lipompo) Ngwako Ramahlodi came to
the fore – I cannot state the visibility of Vavi in most if not all JG Zuma’s public
appearance.
As much as Mordecai went from gate keeper to being the ruler of a country, we will
relate how I see Zuma becoming a ruler of South Africa when nobody even gave him
a chance – God gave him His face, ascended Zuma instead of descending. Let me
take you from chapter 8 of Esther verse 2 “The king took off his signet ring which he
had taken back from Haman and gave it to Mordecai, verse 15: Mordecai left the
Kings presence wearing the royal robe of blue and white, crown of gold, outer cloak
was of fine linen and purple. Zuma left the ANC’s office in victory after the
announcement, he went on to the election road show with confidence and
determination; he was focus now on being the president of South Africa more than
ever before. Esther 8:17 last sentence tells us that many of the people of that land
became Jews themselves, because they feared what the Jews might do to them. I
know that many people, ordinary people changed their opinion as much as some
others commented negatively towards him that motivated so many voters to go out
there and prove a point. I personally cannot say what point is supposed to be
proven; I spoke to some settlers at the informal settlements, Holomisa next to
Windmill Park in Boksburg, and Mthembu said:”Manje ke, kuzo bonakala ukuthi
singobani!’ Meaning that “now we will be recognised” laterally interpretation by yours
truly. I wanted to get mere clarity on this issue, so I asked: “Usho kanjani uma uthi
kuzo bonakala ukuthi ningo bani?’ With ease Mthembu continued:’ Uya bona ukuthi
thina bakwaZulu sithathelwa phansi, abantu aba nje ngani nje ni bon’ ukuthi thina
silungel amataxi wodwa. Niya khohlwa ukuth’ uZulu uqobo owa hlakaza wo
Mzilikazi, oSoshangane phela!” Meaning that people like myself (I have no idea
what type of person according to Mthembu am I) take the Zulu nation very lightly,
people like me only thinking that Zulu people are just good to be taxi based, that we
tend to forget that the scattering of nations under Mzilikazi and Soshangane was
done by uZulu indeed. I chose to stop the discussion for my own sake, not that I
would be attacked but that I will be humiliated as this was drawing other people to
the discussion.
The time drew nearer to the polls. Televisions, radios and newspapers had
something to say. The parties were canvassing in earnest; they used the dropped
charges against J.G. Zuma to discourage voters in voting for the ANC. Some use
female organisations HIV and AIDS institution to say their complaints and concerns.
Time went on to the day we were to vote, and excitement was reaching boiling point,
the ANC and Allies were going all out to tell South Africans that there is no other
party which can be good to govern other than the ANC. I agreed whole heartedly
with my own reasons which will not be discussed in this “Msholozi” book or booklet.
The announcement of the date came while we all waited with the a song and a
dance style, Not Madiba dance or Style but “Awu Leth’umshini wam mshini wam”and
18
those who supported the Singer joined while getting Down JZ rally each meeting
would not be complete without the singing of this song”Umshini wam”.The
government of the Acting President and Motlanthe announced the 22 April 2009.like
thunder of rain which seem to be far of till and believe you me, all concerned heard
and understood the reality.
COPE, DA, PAC, ADCP, and DCP whatever party realized that the day of reckoning
is just nearby. Commentators’ analyst and Politicians were in discussions with others
to merge, to fight together. I want to think that in the ANC ranks and File were
engaged in being in good standing with the youth league as it was doing in good
standing with the youth league as it was so vocal from the Limpopo conference. We
saw and heard ringing tones of Julias Malema and Ezika Mshoza.
As much as we read that the wife of Haman was more influential in the downfall of
her husband, Thabo was a different matter all together: his mother was on her son
side all the way. I cannot say that his wife was not but I want to believe that she was
by Thabo’s side acted as to Thabo’s interest and to Thabo’s Character; I admire the
pair so much. What a dynamic duo. I cannot leave the issue of Thabo’s brother who
made a mane for himself by commenting on the down fall of the brother, ag; you will
have to dig yourself what he spoke about. JZ never forgot where he comes from, he
never spoke ill of those were against him unless to clear his name. He publicity
respected all presidents before him, even went so much as to go and see the
families of former white leaders, even Zille could not help but admit that JZ is a
gentlemen. He involved members of his family-all his wives, especially giving respect
and honour to his first wife.

In time of Challenges, we read to such situations but I have realised that those who
let the dust settle in difficult moments, are able to hold their head high during and
after the incident, JZ went through all are not perfect in this world, but we can try to
be good. That is my assessment which does not count, maybe to you as the reader.
There are so many incidences which occurred before, during the elections but I now
want this book, the tripartite won the elections victoriously to such an extent that
even critics blamed those who seem to be trustworthy, loyal supporters of the ANC.
They cannot understand that even old parties broke into two, failed to take some
supporters, those who tried seeming to have revived those who did not want to vote,
to go and prove a point. For me, Mordecai ascended the throne to the
disappointment of those who wanted his head chopped; he took over the reins to the
joy of those who were excluded, overlooked not given a chance of life, Mordecai
gave hope to people from poor background, those who are taken from their land to
be enslaved in another land, Mordecai gave hope to those who felt that life is bad,
you, must remember that a decree was already passed to kill all Jews in Babylon, to
extinguish them once and for all. “My plans are higher than yours – as high as the
19
heavens from the earth; so are my plans from yours!” says the Word. Here we see
JZ ascending to the throne of not only the ANC but to the throne of the country’s
presidency, beyond what Mordecai achieved as a Prime Minister. When interviewed
on E-TV he said “Angifundanga mina, kodwa nge lusa, nga ngi shaya induku” those
who grew in the homelands got courage, those who achieved just standard three,
five six got a boost of yet another chance to prove their worth. “If uMsholozi can do
it” I also can do something” said my homeland neighbour in Bushbuckridge. Women
who are married in a polygamous marriage felt that they also are represented in high
places.
6. CONCLUSION
You see, JZ is the Mordecai of our times, when we lost hope that we need to be “top
shayela” his existence said regardless you can make it, the only thing you must be is
“do not give up, work hard!” Mordcai influenced Esther not to give up on her
nationality but fight for the oppressed. JZ influenced those who are oppressed,
overlooked and lack self esteem to stand up, taxi driver, house keeper, and
gardener, even those who are educated but not given a chance in organizations, in
schools, in business – do not give up but work hard. As I complete this chapter; we
are in 2011 and in May 15 we will be voting for local government as the Acting
President has announced. JZ as the president has confronted the French
Government “not as former oppressors but as equal partners of government” SABC
two www.morninglive@sabc2. I look at how he is dealing with corruption and
mismanagement in all government sectors and I am confident that as long as he
does not cling to the throne, he will go down in History as the best or one of the best
Presidents of our country, SADC, Africa even the world! The book of Esther, the last
chapter 10 – Acknowledges that Mordecai was well respected, adored by his people
and he made sure that they were protected and enjoyed the resources of the
Kingdom. I am not sure about that as far as JZ, but he has earned my respect in
government. UZuma kaMsholozi, uGedleyihlekisa – izithakazelo zonke. The
question is; will he be still loved by the masses at the end of his term? You, be the
judge.

  • 3. 3 ABSTRACT/ BACKGROUND. This day will go down in my history as a very remarkable and amazing one. This morning as I started my way to the shower with this song in my mind “uphi umhlobo onje ngo Jesu.”, it was the morning of the 19 December 2009. A clear comparison between two people appeared in the Spirit. I do not know why this comparison, I do not know the inner history of the other man but the other was in the Bible; in the book of Esther. The Holy Spirit gave me this comparison: “J.G. Zuma; the Mordecai of our time!” It was so clear, yet so remarkable; not visible, yet so intriguing. I was suppose to go to work; at Ekurhuleni, where I was facing challenges which always depressing me, so I could not put this revelation on power but I related to my wife who wanted to know why Mordecai and who is this Mordecai to be compared to J.G. Zuma or J2, but I could not give her more. The same evening I tried to put the story on paper, because the more I wanted to forget about it, the Holy Spirit pushed me, made the story so interesting that I felt how selfish I would be if I did not share it. So I started with my research without any source except for the Bible and my general knowledge of the Man of our Time, JZ. Resemblance on face value Name: Mordecai Tribe: Jew/Hebrew/Benjamin Place of origin: Palestine – Gebeah Political: Descendent of King Saul – Kish Position: A gate keeper Allegation: Undermining of Prime Minister Seen as: Unifier of Jews Challenges: The P.M. elimination Ascension to spotlight: J. • 4. 4 When King Nebcadnezar of Babilon captured the Nation of Israel, a young man watched as his family was punished and killed. The young man survived the horrors of slavery and he took into his fold a young woman, born from his niece called Abihail, this young man was called Mordecai son of Jair and this young woman whom he adopted as his daughter was called Hassodar Esther; well figured, attractive and very beautiful. When the Queen of Babylon, Vashti, wife of King Xerxes, disrespected her husband by refusing to adhere to his request, all young women who were virgins, beautiful and attractive were chosen to be prepared to be paraded before the King to choose a wife. Mordecai advised his adopted daughter not to reveal her identity as she was also taken to the palace. She won the favour of Hegai who was to prepare her for the exposure by trainings and treatments; amazingly she was given the best place to stay as well as seven girls to serve her. A servant is being served, a captive is treated as a queen already, and Mordecai would walk to and from the palace court and just to see if Esther was getting on well or what was the situation, Esther was chosen as the Queen and somehow the King appointed Mordecai to an administrative position in the palace office. Jacob Gedleyihlekisa Zuma, is a man who did not have any formal education, he comes from a low tribe of the Zulu nation. He saw all the suffering of his family, his nation, but also saw the suffering of all those who are black, Indian and coloured in South Africa. As he tried to make ends meet by working as a labourer, he was introduced to labour movements and to liberation movement, the African National Congress. Though he did not have any tertiary education, his strong family values and grounded upbringing brought attention from the leadership of the movement and was forced to be a fore front of the struggle, which led to arrests and his leading this country to fight from outside. He became a man in the center of the strategising committee of the African National Congress and on the dismantling of Apartheid; he was given a sincor porition in the provincial government where he spearheaded the peaceful, stabilisation of province which was called the “brother eating-brother” province of South Africa – KwaZulu Natal. He helped stabilize the province and settled the African National Congress well into the hearts and homes of those who feared persecution and being killed by other political organisations. He helped to brocker peace between the president of Inkatha Freedom Party and the leadership of the ANC provincially and nationally. The Kingdom of the Zulu nation was able to be claimed as for all AmaZulu and not for a section. Yes, those who are opportunistic used the humble, generous, ground to earth attitude of this man to their advantage. He instilled fear to those in the leadership of the ANC as a threat to porition.
  • 5. 5 I asked the Spirit of God for guidance in order to clearly, openly lay the comparison between the two men. Two men, who are totally different by generations. Two men, who are totally world apart by knowledge; nationality, birth and life, yet, nearly similar by sufferings, way of living and the rise to power. 1. INTRODUCTION The more I got the similarities and differences I was pushed to keep on writing. Today is Sunday, I am going to work, I should work for six hours as pre-planned but ag, I will work only four hours so that I can go to church. My mind starts to be worried and run amok just at the thought of going to my work. That is a book for another time. My God and Father, help me understand your objective of this book I am to complete: “JZ, the Mordecai of our time.” I went to work, and then went to church. I related this story to uArch Bishop, but, he could not grasp the momentum I am on. I tried to give just the brief of the story and he seems to be, well, astonished if that is the right word. That made me to again wonder about this comparison. But then the Holy Spirit showed me a shorter Thabo Mvuyelwa Mbeki leading a more taller and bigger man to the podium; so clear that I recognised that this was the Polokwane conference of the ANC where J.G. Zuma took over the reigns of the Presidency while Kgalema Mothlanthe proceeded as the Presidency of the country. I realised that another comparison has been made available between Mordecai of the Bible and J.G. Zuma of our Times. Mordecai the son of Jair was now well placed in the palace, he did not need to walk to and from in order to check on the well being of the daughter who is now the Queen and amazingly or surprisingly; her identity is still not known. In the mist of such transformation, Mordecai over heard what two office bearers were discussing. They were planning an assassination of none – other but the King of Babylon. I cannot say if his actions were prompted by his now relation to the King but Mordecai could not rejoice and be happy that his people’s oppressor would be killed, he warned the King about the plot. Mordecai was foreigner and he raised eye brows by reporting the Kings country men, so the matter had to be investigated – sure enough, it was proved to be the truth, the two noble men killed. This was a very big deed, if it was in our days he would be given a medal, a promotion and and, and. Mordecai was foreigner, a captive and a slave so; all his efforts were not recognised. The man meant well, as I analyse the event, I questioned my vocabulary on why did miss this aspect? I tried to justify that this was not mentioned in the Holy Book, again, is this not really the most disgusting observance. A man reported a plot to kill the King but is not recognised. A man saves the life of a King and he is just noted into the History books but not rewarded. The Holy Spirit
  • 6. 6 woke me up as to the reasoning of this book. Yes, how does President Zuma become the Mordecai, a captive Jew of our time? UMsholozi, the clan name of Jacob Gedleyihlekisa Zuma became the Deputy President of the country as well as that of the ANC when the legendary Nelson Rolihlahla Mandela stepped down into retirement. He was definitely at Luthuli House as well as the presidents’ palace. I can remember that most important tasks given to Jacob (I want to use this name as I am using the name of Mordecai. As an African I am proud of my African name: Mayaya, though my mother did not use it for her reason.) As the deputy President Jacob stabilised the province of Kwa-Zulu Natal even better. He was given tasks to brocker peace in these continents countries such as Zambia, Ghana, Sudan etc. To my small or limited knowledge, he started the talks; he gained the trust of those involved and maintained the discussions. South Africa was put on the map, yes countries looked to the South for solutions in conflicts, solution to country man against another and not because of the popularity of the legend Mandela, but because of the experience knowledge and determination of Jacob. His humble attitude in dealing with challenges was training him for the future. His “never-let-die” attitude made states men trust him, made political analysts recognise his strength in negotiations. Ah, now we see the resemblance. Was Jacob rewarded for putting the Mbeki government on the map? Is there any event of recognition for all his efforts, successor? Not that I can remember, except all this and other events were in his history books, books written about him of course. Though he was not rewarded, people, ordinary people noted and appreciated his efforts. Working class and those who are classified as low class, uneducated would rise to honour and defend him. I want to believe that these events were not planned by any person, but devine power and intervention had a hand in the rise of those who saw positive where most people in higher position – saw negative; ordinary people, hungry and wanting people saw a rise of a defender, a promise and hope for the future. People inside the ANC, COSATU, SACP and Youth leagues started to rise up for the one who could not be rewarded, recognised, but not yet, the walk was still very fresh and had to be exhausted mentally, physically and indeed spiritually. I need to freshen up. I wish I could read about Jacob, get more of what he was no recognised for, but this book is about what the Holy Spirit will feed me with. I must read the book of Esther and he (The Holy Spirit) will feed me about Jacob, will remind me of things I have overlooked. Well, my real source is the Bible and greatly the Holy Spirit, you are getting more bored, you want the fiction but this book is not about the work of the mind, imagination. The book will show the miracle working God at work. He says: “I have known you by name before you were born.” Jo! I must not start preaching.
  • 7. 7 2. THE RISE OF ENEMIES AND ALLEGATION There was a rich man at that time in the Kingdom of Babylon by the name of Naaman of the origin of Agar. That person was appointed the prime minister by King Xerxes. Now the occurance happens when Esther was already a Queen and Mordecai in the palace administration. Naaman wanted fame, demanded respect and was very boastful. When Naaman walked the streets of the kingdom, people would kneel, others bowed down in showing respect for the man. This was a norm and all people, the community knew this, so when an Israel captive did not do the same, they wanted to find out the reason. Mordecai answered: “I cannot bow down to any man; I have on God whom I bowed down to.” They had to talk to someone about this, the man Mordecai was defying the Kings orders, but some people wanted to know how Haman would react. The motive here was not to have Mordecai do as they did, but to sow a bigger and effective gap between the two men. In my mind, it seems like nothing major. I am awakening to some depressing matters. Were they aware of enimnity between these two men? Were they aware of anything which would challenge Naaman? Is it possible that they identify leadership in Mordecai which they do not see in Haman? Well, they approached Naaman and told him about Mordecai conduct. I want to believe that Haman never noticed this conduct before the report. Esther 3:4 relates: “Day after day they spoke to him (Mordecai) but he refused to comply. Therefore they told Haman about it to see whether Mordecai’s behaviour would be tolerated, for he told them he was a Jew.” Now another question rises to my mind in that would they have reported this matter if Mordecai was not a Jew? Jews were now like citizens in that country, they had probably inter-married, but looks like Xenophobia was still clearly visible. The reaction of Haman when he saw that this Jew would not honour him was of rage. Not being angry but enraged, he learnt that Mordecai was of the Jew nation; he was determined and eager to destroy the whole people of Jew origin. He started planning his project, just because of one man’s action – a whole nation would be destroyed. He isolately selected a date and month in which these people including Mordecai would be destroyed, and then asked the King for a proclamation for a prize. Haman influenced the King on reasons of religions and customs to kill these people. Esther 3:9 “If it pleases the King, let a decree be issued to destroy the Jews, AND I will put 340 tons of silver into the royal treasury for the men to carry out these businesses” Jo! This man was more than rich; he would pay the Babylon soldiers to carry out his vendetta; just to destroy Mordecai. He was really of the Devil. The Bible says: The devil is a LIAR, KILLER AND A DESTROYER. Now you should not be surprised when you are faced with not only loss of you work, but divorce follows then are arrested for something you do not know! We not finished with the challenges of Mordecai. The King sealed the proclamation using his ring. That is to confirm that the Jews on this date and months would be killed, exterminated and Haman would not only have Killed Mordecai, but destroyed his family, relatives and nation. After the decree by the king messengers were dispatched to all provinces, governors and
  • 8. 8 noblemen with the scripts written in the name of the king and sealed in his own name. The decreed order was to “destroy, kill and annihilate all the Jews.” Esther 3:13; all young and old, women children on one single day. Haman has succeeded on paper, his project was on track. Mordecai heard and read about this, he tore his clothes, put ashes and wailed loudly and bitterly. He went to the gate since he worked in the place, but people in sack clothes were not allowed further, all Jews cried, mourned and put ashes on themselves. The queen heard about this especially how Mordecai her father is, she was in total distress, she called a servant to go and get the whole story of which the script was brought to her, through a messenger or servant Mordecai urged Esther to beg the king for mercy. She knew that she could not just bust into the presence of the King unless summoned, otherwise she would be killed, but Mordecai sent a massage “Do not think that you will be spared because you are in the Kings palace, maybe, you were brought into palace for this reason. “A big prayer session started of fasting and intercession among all Jews that God may spare and protect Esther as she prepares to approach the king. Three days of fasting and prayer finished with the Queen in the inner court of the palace, standing right in front of the royal throne facing the King, and the king was pleased with her; a gold sceptre was held out towards her and she approached, touched the tip. The King asked the queen what her request was. Esther requested that the King grace her by coming to a dinner prepared for him with Haman. When this news was given to Haman, man, was he happy that day; in high spirits was he when he left the palace only to be disappointed and filled with rage on the sight – of Mordecai who showed no respect or fear of Haman. He controlled himself and went home. 3. THE RISE OF A MAN Haman called his friends in the presence if his wife he boasted about his wealth, family, position and that he was the only man to be invited by the Queen with the King. “But all this gives me no satisfaction as long as I see that Jew Mordecai sitting at the Kings’ gate” Esther 5:13. NIV. The man feels hate and anger about a person who is but his worker, subordinate, worse not in his office but at the gate? His wife and friends advised him to erect a gallows 23 meter high, where Mordecai could be hanged. This made Haman happy and without the knowledge of the king, the gallows were erected that night. The same night the King Xerxes could not sleep, he tossed and turned, walked about his palace but could not get himself to sleep. He ordered that the book of Chronicles be brought to him; this book had all records of events during his reign. The record of Mordecai’s deed was found and the king wanted to know how Mordecai was honoured and rewarded, He was told that nothing was done. The king wanted to know if any of his high official was around the palace, and it was reported that Haman is in, as it was not the next morning and Haman wanted to “speak to the king about hanging Mordecai on the gallows he erected for him” Esther 6:4. NIV. The King ordered that he comes in. The King asked Haman to advise him on how a man can be shown honour and be rewarded by the king. Now Haman’s pride and arrogance took over; he only identified one person who could be honoured and rewarded by the King: Haman himself so: “Have your servants bring a royal robe which the king wears, a horse the
  • 9. 9 king rides which has a royal crest on the forehead. Let these robes and horse be entrusted to this man, led by the Kings’ noblest person in the city proclaiming” This is what is done for the man the king delights to honour. “Esther 6:7-9 the king said to Haman” Go at once, get those robes and horse just as you suggested, do to Mordecai, the Jew, you will find him at the gate, do not leave anything you have suggested. “Esther 6:10. Eish! Haman was forced to go and take Mordecai his enemy, his subordinate by hand has him bathed, nourished, clothed and saddle a horse for him. He led this man whom he hated so much, a man he has already planned to hand on the 23 meter high gallows on foot through the eighty’s streets and he shouted these words “This is what is done for the man the king delights to honour” What a humiliation! What a depressing strike on his ego! The tides of times were turning; a servant was raised to rule his owner. Is this just coincidence just luck? Or is this when the Lord replies the cry of those who trust Him? A man named Shabir Shaik, from the Indian community born South African saw an opportunity to make more money, succeed in tenders, especially government tenders by being a friend, advisor to Jacob. Jacob’s history is amazing as he says that he did not have formal education. Time and again I see him, he reads scripts, speaks relatively better and exceptional English, let alone his ability to speak other languages other than isiZulu and English. So when I heard from the newspapers that Shabir was an advisor, financial advisor, I accepted that. I also justified this because all parliamentarians of 1994 knew nothing about government, let alone legislative and financial governance. While Jacob was elected to deputy president of the ANC, and appointed Deputy President of this country, a case of corruption, fraud, extortion was put to Shabir Shaik and companies which dealt with Arms manufacturing and selling. A tender to acquire fire-arms, aeroplanes, war machines went wrong and it was alleged that Shabir was involved. At his trial the judgement the called the relationship between Shabir and Jacob was corrupt and that the money’s Shabir was depositing into Jacob’s account went beyond advisory matters, but were intended to manipulate the tender. This was a bomb. The Independent Party pursued this matter, but that Jacob would be pointed out by the court was not thought of, or I did not want to believe that. The president of the country recalled and dismissed Jacob on national television. The scorpions who were the national crime busters and prosecutors prepared charged to put to Mr J.G. Zuma. We on the ground were not happy. Actually Black South Africans showed a division in the Msholozi’s plight. Those who thought or undertook themselves as more educated, more liberal, richer than others sided with the president of the country, Thabo Mbeki, while the lowest, poorest and those who were side-lined by the Thabo Mbeki government sided with Jacob. All secrets or things which were perceived as damaging were brought out. The media went all out to discredit Jacob. His poor education background, his poor family background, his lack of intellectual leadership were laid bare for all to read and see, since no newspaper would not write about him and the news bulletins would not pass without mentioning something about him. Shabir was sentenced to be in jail as if he killed someone while the National Prosecuting Authority was applying for search warrant for Jacobs’s houses, or residences. I think I must just research a bit about Jacob
  • 10. 10 Gedleyihlekisa Zuma, uMsholozi, a man who went and created a name by his song “Umshini wam’, umshini wam!” Meaning- “my machine gun, my machine gun.” By now you feel that I am selfish with this information. I went about searching for the information which will close the gap. Technology has been greatly improved, at a click of a button you are able to read about whatever, whoever you want to read about. Here I like the narrated interview with the man himself with a topic: “Jacobs’s ladder” The writer put Jacob against Dr Gatsha Buthelezi, against Jacobs’s former wife Nkosazana for the position of deputy president of the country. Jacob got the deputy presidency indeed and challenges started. 4. THE WOMAN INVOLVED There was young woman who, is also from the same area where Jacob was born but came to the city for work. She did know Jacob, how much she knew him, I cannot deliberate. When the Deputy President was harassed and teased by the media about Shabir’s case, this woman (I will not say her name, as her identity was kept secret all along) was found to have asked for a place to sleep over. She arrived at his Johannesburg home and was allowed to stay. As I write I am amazed as to her preparedness. She prepared herself for a sleep; she had all the clothes which would attract Jacob. She had the body which is appealing to him. She allowed him to massage her, and “ubaba took advantage of me” as he alleged to have raped her. She could not scream when he started, she could not even inform those in the house when he went to him room. This was dramatic, so controvential, so much direct. A man, who is in such a position of power; who had wives, and knew ladies of esteem, elegance; he knew those in rural areas and he could have had any who is available. But, he allegedly raped this woman, who conveniently was in his house, who allowed this man to touch, and rub her, she did not scratch him, she did not struggle with him, yet he had his way, went to his room, she could not react. She was able to go to the police station; I cannot remember if it was the very next day, but, she reported the case. I know that the police do not take such issues on face value. I know that the police of our time would have called their station commander for advice before registering the case, yet, amazingly, the police were so good, so compassionate and responsible, within days Jacob was dragged to court and got a bail in order for the investigations to finalise, tests to be conducted. Jacob was in the net and the spider was poised to rap and feed on him. The president said, “a man is innocent until proven guilty.” Ja! There was no way he could get out of this. The case was uproar. www.news.bbc.uk/2/hi/africa/4808960.stm. Whoever planned this was very shrewd: 1. Jacob is umZulu, the girl is also umZulu 2. Jacob is rural, so is the origin of the girl 3. Jacob is not well educated, so was the girl 4. Jacob is not the classy type, so was the girl, am I saying girl? I meant woman, thousand apologies; An opportunity arised from those who fought against domestic violence, groups who were against polygamy, groups who are HIV and AIDS inclined, but this awakens support by rural woman, workers and low class groups. They went to court with Jacob, they praid and danced with him and that is where the song took top stage
  • 11. 11 “umshini wam’, mshini wam” His speeches was scrutinised and this story went truly against Jacob, consuming his passion, his self esteem like fire on a dry veld. The writer of “Jacobs’s ladder” describes Jacob as “a clean-shaven-bullet like head” man. His explanation as to what did he do after sex with an HIV infected woman, gave all news papers the exact ammunition to put him on the cross. Ja! Imagine “I took a shower.” Newspaper reduced him for a fool, masqueraded him as someone who cannot be trusted in leadership. If this was surely planned, it looked very successful up to so far, until the verdict was announced by the judge. “Not, guilty, however you should have reached a better judgement.” The National Prosecuting Authority took over the assault on Jacob. More than seventy charges were placed on him. His homes and offices were raided though not procedurally, but, they had all the bullets they needed to continue the assault. The state, led by the NPA branch” Scorpion” collected evidences, they cared less if they followed the procedure or not whether they violated the constitution or not. Common people, like me, thought that this corruption case had a motive behind; we wanted Jacob to come clean and tell all. We knew that, no, we thought and believed that Jacob was scapegoat for 1. How could Jacob influence tenders as an MEC 2. How can a company trust the influence of a person not even a Minister of Defence, or Enterprises? We thought that someone higher had a hand in this; Shabir was a tool to cover-up the deep trouble which the opposition parties are looking at deeply. Jacob did not say anything damaging against the ANC leadership. The only mistake the Scorpion did was to undermine the power of the working class, under estimate the faith of those who supported Jacob every time he appeared in a court. I think they were “destroyed because of the lack of knowledge” The state, scorpions, detectives and lawyers did not know the power of prayer. I know that they consulted the ancestral spirits (amadlozi) and also called the God of Heavens for divine intervention. The courts of this country undermined the determination and courage of Jacob. They forgot that a boy who was a shepherd will have more courage and spirit to face challenges than anyone who has never herded cattle, that a boy who struggled in life, will be more determined and stronger than any person who never faced difficulties. The rape case was seen by all those who are looking at things as practical as the sun shine; that he has been set up. The trial went through its course but we all rejoiced with Jacob when he was acquitted. His enemies felt let down, whoever planned this felt the blow. The prayers of Jacob’s supporters and comrades were heard and answered. The lady was given protection and moved out of sight by the state, she was called all bad names, lambasted and scolded by all who supported Jacob but got sympathy from those who were against Jacob and what e stood for. A cartoonist called went and ensure that Jacob was seen as a demon a Satanist, a rapist and heathen. Ag! I personally hat what Zapiro or whatever his name is, I hate the way he takes advantage of people, he should start doing bio nest work instead of making fun of people. The hypocrite! Enough said of this cartoonist. I still say
  • 12. 12 whatever newspapers, he tried to use to demons Jacob, and it would turn to be the opposite of what was intended for. The Nquka and NPA went for the kill now. Search warrants were sought to get more information to nail Jacobs, as he was gaining more and more support, Jacobs house was searched and as I have mentioned before, documents, items were taken from these places, offices of the company involved were also searched. Through the courts, Jacob won and lost some battles, the search was declared illegal. At that moment another man rose to prominence in the justice fraternity. Justice Hlophe, ok, let me identify him correctly Judge Hlophe. This judge rose to prominence due to his utterances about racism in our courts, judiciary. There are still, those apartheid officials who still have their segregation and racial agenda. We knew that! I knew that in some courts; actually most courts, the word of the white person was more powerful that any honest and sincere word of any other coloured person. The judge started another debate which prominent people like president Thabo, minister Lekota would have dismissed and will dismiss. Hey, this issue is very serious; as most rich and “better” people give the impression that apartheid is gone, dead and buried, it is not so. The white person is still holding the aces in his hands, financial power, labour power and technological power. In most government sectors blacks are in the most top position without the actual foundation and background information of that department, section or sect. This judge was accused of breaking the judicial conduct in that he tried to influence other judges as to the dilemma of Jacob is concerned. Amazingly, during that process when the judge was fighting against other judges, Jacob was given a major boost, a certain judge ruled that “there was interference in the charges of Jacob G. Zuma by the state” That Thabo Mbeki was instrumental in the process. Joo! That was the turning point. Prior to this development; a young man took over the presidency of the ANC youth league: Julius Malema. We as the working class have known all Youth league presidents were radical, vocal and mostly uncontrolled, but this boy was more than that. He started the speeches of Jacob Zuma; to fight for, Jacob Zuma, to kill for and Jacob Zuma to die for! Labour and Communists joined forces in the support of Jacob. I always say that God will use any person, anything, any situation to implement what he want to implement. When this KZN judge ruled in favour of Jacob Zuma in his judgement, the youth league, labour movement and communist took over with all those who were excluded and sidelined by the Mbeki government. Thabo Mbeki was recalled from the presidency of the country. Kgalema Mothlanthe who was the deputy president but did not replace Jacob Zuma when he was fired, since Jacob was replaced by Mrs Mlambo-Ngcuka Phumzile; was placed as the president of the country. “Oh! How the mighty has fallen” These were the words of David of Israel, the son of Jesse on the death of King Saul and Jonathan his friend. President Thabo Mbeki stepped down in what I call “a ceremonial, respectable” manner. He had his dignity intact, his self respect protected though his mother did not take it lying down. There was a major shake down in the government, prominent people; I mean officials resigned from their position; e.g. Mosioua Lekota, Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka etc and though not so many people mention this mars’ name (Martinus van Schalkwyk) who was the leader of the then National Party stayed put. The trials went forth. It was one appeal after the other; as we always say. Then there was the time for the National Conference of the ANC. In this meetings
  • 13. 13 positions are fought for, oh, I mean in the democratic way – vote of course. The presidency, general secretary, the chairperson are the most important influential of all positions in the ANC organisation, while Thabo Mbeki is still the president of the organisation, most people like myself wanted him out; I have my own reasons because I want progress, transformation and change. I did not actually get that from the presidency of Mbeki. The conference raised fears and hopes of people in different circles. I think the enthusiasm was so much that even the media intensified their smear campaign, but other people were also strategising on what to do after the conference. 5. BREAKTHROUGH Yes, as much as Mordecai fasted and prayed with all Israel, Juda Nation for survival, the supporters and comrade of Jacob himself prayed and hoped for success and that things will benefit those who feel oppressed. The conference was here! Haman, the enemy of the Hebrew people, was devastated to say the least. The Bible give the History that after the parade he went home very sad and felt defeated, but the tormenting words were from his friends and family Hester 6:13 “... if Mordercai is a descended of the Jews, and you have begun to fall under him, sure you shall not survive his take over!” These words were like swords into his flesh, if he felt any strength, they took that away. King Xerxes sent his people to come and collect Haman for the dinner as invited by the queen. At the gate, he passed the man he hates so much, the man he paraded as honoured. I want to imagine that he consoled himself by that part, as Haman, he was still going to the palace, going to dine with the King and Queen. Mordecai was back to his rags as he was still fasting for the survival of the Jewish people but he had to work too. Dinner was prepared, guests were only the body guards, servants and the royal house – King and Queen. At the table the king raised the question to the Queen, remember that she requested the audience of the king while it was not her time to be in the Kings presence. The king asked the queen: “What is your petition? It shall be done for you? Is there anything you need? Even half the kingdom will be granted to you if you wish?” The kings heart was aligned to the Queen, he was prepared to listen to his wife’s need and want. The Queen opened her mouth and spoke: “My petition is for my life, that I may live and my request is to be spared the life of my people!” The queen went further to explain that the lives of her people and eventually her life, was sold for a prize. They are to be exterminated, totally destroyed. The king got a shock of his life as he wanted to know the person who could want to kill the queen with all her family and her people. Can you just put yourself first in the shoes of Esther; you have the kings stamped proclamation in your hand, which states clearly and directly that you are to be killed, not buried but exterminated without trace, if you had a child, the child must be killed, if you had a grandchild, that would also be killed, destroyed and totally made to disappear from the face of this earth and you are asking for pardon from that very king, that is ironic and frightening, but, let me give a worse situation. Haman knew immediately that the queen was referring to something he had something to do with, but could not put that into his mind that she is related to
  • 14. 14 Mordecai. Haman never knew that the queen is a Jew and that he had requested the king to proclaim the killing of the king’s wife, he planned the distraction of the queen, he plotted the extermination of the king’s wife – Jo! What a blunder! “My people are destroyed due to the lack of knowledge.” One passage expresses the point. In SeSotho we say “Go se tsebe ke kotsi” meaning lack of knowledge is dangerous. The queen pointed Haman, and said: “This is the enemy of my people, the person who planned for my distraction, I would not have complained if it was slavery, but her we to be killed and exterminated! Please have mercy on us!” The king leaped from his chair, stepped out of the dining place. What a shock! Haman could not hold or control himself; he fell down at the feet of the queen to request for mercy, maybe to clarify the point. It was at that time when the King returned to find Haman at eh feet of the queen and cried “is this man going to physically attack my wife right here, in my palace?’ Here comes trouble the body guards told the king about the pole erected by Haman where Mordecai was to be hanged in the presence of the queen. The King ordered that Haman be hanged on the same pole erected for Mordecai. The palace officials to hold of Haman and escorted him to be executed by hanging. All Haman’s property was put under the authority of Mordecai, the Jew Esther told the king of her relation to Mordecai, and the King raised Mordecai to his second in command, the position which was held by Haman, the enemy of the Jewish people. Mordecai was given the stamp ring which was held by Haman of which he (Haman) used to write the letters which informed all nations about the extermination of the Jewish people in Babylon. Mordecai used the same ring to proclaim that Jews will defend themselves when attacked. Mordecai, a Jew a captive, a gate keeper rose to the second highest position in Babylon, he moved from the gate right into the palace, from being a slave captive to being a captor. Is it luck, fortune or fate?? Polokwane in the Northern Province of South Africa became a talk of the moment. The ruling party was going to elect new leadership, remember that the present leader, president at the African National Congress was still Thabo Mvuyelwa Mbeki. The president of the country was Kgalema Mothlanthe, who was seen as the unifying force in the organisation. The tradition of the African National Congress is an amazing once. After all debates, deliberations, the election would take place. The procedure was when you held a position and was dusted, you have to go and take the new holder, incumbent of that position by hand, and bring the person to the stage and sit him or her on you previous position and chair. Do if you were the secretary-general or deputy- president in the organisation and that position was contested; if you lose, you would be compelled to go to the floor, take the person who won the election by hand, walk back to the stage and let the person sit where you were while you go back to the floor. In Polokwane, the time for electing leadership came and though Thabo Mbeki had two terms, he still wanted to go for the third; he had branches that supported him in that move. Treasures were elected, office bearers and the time forth top post came; the Presidency of the ANC. The fight went down to two people, Thabo Mbeki and Jacob Zuma. You should not lose sight of the fact that the corruption case was still running. Questions were being asked with the Youth league standing firm that Jacob
  • 15. 15 Zuma is for presidency. It was this matter that made this Polokwane Conference to have so many resolutions called as Polokwane Resolutions. The Mathew Phosa of old was brought back in this conference. Qwede Mantashe, Tokyo Sixwale, Jersi Duarte came alive and took centre stage, yet, the whole world was still awaiting to see who takes over as president. If Thabo retains, what would be the outcome, in fighting’s, declaration of war? Why? What if Jacob wins? How would he be accepted internationally? How will he lead the organisation but not be the president? How can he be the president while he still accused with all these cases of corruption? It was in the afternoon when I saw the news! “JACOB GEZEYIHLEKISA ZUMA – THE NEW PRESIDENT OF THE ANC” As per tradition, the national television and other channels showed the takeover. Just as Haman paraded Mordecai while honoured by the king, Thabo Mbeki went to the floor, took Jacob by the hand, and led him onto the pavilion and stage. The taller structure of Jacob hovered over Thabo and he was placed among those nominated, Thabo hugged Jacob, and just as Haman went home sad and demoralised, Thabo returned to the floor a lone figure, he looked very alone, sad, like he has been scolded for doing something wrong. Haman went to his home, but Thabo was still in the conference. I cannot in all fairness speculate what Thabo’s close supporters said to him at that time or later. The Bible says that Haman’s wife and friends told him that it looks like he has lost against his opposition for good. A song took over just when Thabo went back to the floor:”Awu lethu’ mshini wam! Mshini wam!”The whole place exploded as the commentator took over and went to other news. Jacob took over the presidency of an organization; the question in every person’s mind and lips was “Will Jacob Zuma takes over as president of South Africa? How is he going to escape the court charges? “These questions were not just for the country but the whole continent and the world. Jacob is eventually the president of the most powerful, largest and oldest organisation in South Africa – ANC, but the battle was not yet over. In the bible, Haman was hanged, while Mordecai ascended to the position of Haman. The book of Hester tells us that the King agreed to sign a declaration that the Jews can defend and protect themselves, that Haman Agag’s family was wiped off the face of the earth by Mordecai and his soldiers. Jacob has not yet ascended the throne of presidency of the country, the ANC agreed to have a care-taker presidents until all charges and allegations are seen through. The court must decide if Jacob is guilty or not. He cannot ascend the throne while the cloud of corruption hands on his head. The NPA appealed to have the outcome of Durban / Pietermaritzburg outcome turned upside down. “What has to be will be?” I always say our lives and successes or failures are not just cut and dry, it is not up to us, our enemies to succeed or fail, there is a Higher Order controlling the fate of man, family and a country. I have seen history take place because of one person, regardless of his upbringing, background – the lives of many are affected by this man’s actions, or presence. As
  • 16. 16 courts, trials and appeals took place, the ANC youth league and South African Communist Party with the Congress of South African Trade Unions, supported Jacob all the way. Julius Malema – the leader of the Youth League became the voice, the frontline of this conviction that Jacob will be the president of this Country after Kgalema Mothlanthe. The young man was given all kinds of names just as Jacob was; from being an illiterate, skunk, womaniser etc., but he stood his ground. The most credible and interesting thing was the supporters loyalty, determination and passion as they accompanied Jacob to each appearance. Jacob was still at the gate, not in the palace area. Mr Mokotedi Mpshe has been appointed as the Acting Director of Public Prosecution when the husband of the then Deputy President Ngcuka stepped down, I cannot remember if he was fired or he resigned; the Acting DPP continued where the former have left off but some sincerity was there. An enquiry was adopted and indeed some facts came out: 1. That there was evidence that the NPA has interfered in the case 2. That the then President knew of plans to prosecute Jacob 3. Jacob has been targeted for ulterior motives. At this point we were already facing the new elections. A new party emerged in South Africa with high ranking ANC officials: Mbazima Shilowa – whom I call the singer who sang to premiership, Terror Lekota whom I always thought he was not present at crucial moments when most of his comrades were killed, maimed and tortured. How lucky is this man? Oh, yes he was detained; he says he was tortured in his biography. Terror gave most people in South Africa the impression that he was sent by Thabo Mbeki to form this new party: Congress of the People (COPE) but to this day as I write this bookie Mbeki has never came out publicly to support COPE, maybe I read less. The formation of this COPE, created a vibrant atmosphere to us all. I want to believe that those who would not have voted stood up to prove a point. Jacob and the Tripartite Alliance went all out to canvass woe and call on loyal supporters as well as sense to prevail in those who have become ignorant. Yes, Jacob won even the heart of the most powerful, most loved and popular statesman – Rolihlahla Nelson Mandela – Madiba, who made it to two rallies where Jacob was to speak, to the criticism of Zuma by others. Media came out with all the accusations of abuse, opportunistic statements that the old man was forced or kidnapped to be at those rallies. Political parties especially Terror’s COPE and Democratic Party painted a very sad side that Jacob has no respect or does not care about the elderly, they did not win, and actually I say they failed. Then, we were awoken to a day of wonder a day of ululating and of sadness as Mokotedi called a press conference, Mpshe, the acting Director of prosecution. “The National Prosecuting Authority is withdrawing all the corruption charges against Gedleyihlekisa Jacob Zuma and the others.” The statement went about on media.
  • 17. 17 Jo! Jo! Jo! Man! What a day that was, I wanted that; like I wanted to kiss my wife the day she came to see me at the hospital, but she was more concerned about my health to give me that “deep kiss” – I did not care if this was orchestrated or pre- planned for Jacob’s presidency. The stage changed for good, or was it for worse? The stage prepared itself for the actors to begin with their roles. The ANC, COSATU and SACP kept the ball rolling – the former premier of Mpumalanga, Mathew Phosa emerged. The former premier of Limpopo (Lipompo) Ngwako Ramahlodi came to the fore – I cannot state the visibility of Vavi in most if not all JG Zuma’s public appearance. As much as Mordecai went from gate keeper to being the ruler of a country, we will relate how I see Zuma becoming a ruler of South Africa when nobody even gave him a chance – God gave him His face, ascended Zuma instead of descending. Let me take you from chapter 8 of Esther verse 2 “The king took off his signet ring which he had taken back from Haman and gave it to Mordecai, verse 15: Mordecai left the Kings presence wearing the royal robe of blue and white, crown of gold, outer cloak was of fine linen and purple. Zuma left the ANC’s office in victory after the announcement, he went on to the election road show with confidence and determination; he was focus now on being the president of South Africa more than ever before. Esther 8:17 last sentence tells us that many of the people of that land became Jews themselves, because they feared what the Jews might do to them. I know that many people, ordinary people changed their opinion as much as some others commented negatively towards him that motivated so many voters to go out there and prove a point. I personally cannot say what point is supposed to be proven; I spoke to some settlers at the informal settlements, Holomisa next to Windmill Park in Boksburg, and Mthembu said:”Manje ke, kuzo bonakala ukuthi singobani!’ Meaning that “now we will be recognised” laterally interpretation by yours truly. I wanted to get mere clarity on this issue, so I asked: “Usho kanjani uma uthi kuzo bonakala ukuthi ningo bani?’ With ease Mthembu continued:’ Uya bona ukuthi thina bakwaZulu sithathelwa phansi, abantu aba nje ngani nje ni bon’ ukuthi thina silungel amataxi wodwa. Niya khohlwa ukuth’ uZulu uqobo owa hlakaza wo Mzilikazi, oSoshangane phela!” Meaning that people like myself (I have no idea what type of person according to Mthembu am I) take the Zulu nation very lightly, people like me only thinking that Zulu people are just good to be taxi based, that we tend to forget that the scattering of nations under Mzilikazi and Soshangane was done by uZulu indeed. I chose to stop the discussion for my own sake, not that I would be attacked but that I will be humiliated as this was drawing other people to the discussion. The time drew nearer to the polls. Televisions, radios and newspapers had something to say. The parties were canvassing in earnest; they used the dropped charges against J.G. Zuma to discourage voters in voting for the ANC. Some use female organisations HIV and AIDS institution to say their complaints and concerns. Time went on to the day we were to vote, and excitement was reaching boiling point, the ANC and Allies were going all out to tell South Africans that there is no other party which can be good to govern other than the ANC. I agreed whole heartedly with my own reasons which will not be discussed in this “Msholozi” book or booklet. The announcement of the date came while we all waited with the a song and a dance style, Not Madiba dance or Style but “Awu Leth’umshini wam mshini wam”and
  • 18. 18 those who supported the Singer joined while getting Down JZ rally each meeting would not be complete without the singing of this song”Umshini wam”.The government of the Acting President and Motlanthe announced the 22 April 2009.like thunder of rain which seem to be far of till and believe you me, all concerned heard and understood the reality. COPE, DA, PAC, ADCP, and DCP whatever party realized that the day of reckoning is just nearby. Commentators’ analyst and Politicians were in discussions with others to merge, to fight together. I want to think that in the ANC ranks and File were engaged in being in good standing with the youth league as it was doing in good standing with the youth league as it was so vocal from the Limpopo conference. We saw and heard ringing tones of Julias Malema and Ezika Mshoza. As much as we read that the wife of Haman was more influential in the downfall of her husband, Thabo was a different matter all together: his mother was on her son side all the way. I cannot say that his wife was not but I want to believe that she was by Thabo’s side acted as to Thabo’s interest and to Thabo’s Character; I admire the pair so much. What a dynamic duo. I cannot leave the issue of Thabo’s brother who made a mane for himself by commenting on the down fall of the brother, ag; you will have to dig yourself what he spoke about. JZ never forgot where he comes from, he never spoke ill of those were against him unless to clear his name. He publicity respected all presidents before him, even went so much as to go and see the families of former white leaders, even Zille could not help but admit that JZ is a gentlemen. He involved members of his family-all his wives, especially giving respect and honour to his first wife. (http://www.politicsweb.co.za/politicsweb/view/politicsweb/en/page71654?oid=15901 7&sn=Detail) In time of Challenges, we read to such situations but I have realised that those who let the dust settle in difficult moments, are able to hold their head high during and after the incident, JZ went through all are not perfect in this world, but we can try to be good. That is my assessment which does not count, maybe to you as the reader. There are so many incidences which occurred before, during the elections but I now want this book, the tripartite won the elections victoriously to such an extent that even critics blamed those who seem to be trustworthy, loyal supporters of the ANC. They cannot understand that even old parties broke into two, failed to take some supporters, those who tried seeming to have revived those who did not want to vote, to go and prove a point. For me, Mordecai ascended the throne to the disappointment of those who wanted his head chopped; he took over the reins to the joy of those who were excluded, overlooked not given a chance of life, Mordecai gave hope to people from poor background, those who are taken from their land to be enslaved in another land, Mordecai gave hope to those who felt that life is bad, you, must remember that a decree was already passed to kill all Jews in Babylon, to extinguish them once and for all. “My plans are higher than yours – as high as the
  • 19. 19 heavens from the earth; so are my plans from yours!” says the Word. Here we see JZ ascending to the throne of not only the ANC but to the throne of the country’s presidency, beyond what Mordecai achieved as a Prime Minister. When interviewed on E-TV he said “Angifundanga mina, kodwa nge lusa, nga ngi shaya induku” those who grew in the homelands got courage, those who achieved just standard three, five six got a boost of yet another chance to prove their worth. “If uMsholozi can do it” I also can do something” said my homeland neighbour in Bushbuckridge. Women who are married in a polygamous marriage felt that they also are represented in high places. 6. CONCLUSION You see, JZ is the Mordecai of our times, when we lost hope that we need to be “top shayela” his existence said regardless you can make it, the only thing you must be is “do not give up, work hard!” Mordcai influenced Esther not to give up on her nationality but fight for the oppressed. JZ influenced those who are oppressed, overlooked and lack self esteem to stand up, taxi driver, house keeper, and gardener, even those who are educated but not given a chance in organizations, in schools, in business – do not give up but work hard. As I complete this chapter; we are in 2011 and in May 15 we will be voting for local government as the Acting President has announced. JZ as the president has confronted the French Government “not as former oppressors but as equal partners of government” SABC two www.morninglive@sabc2. I look at how he is dealing with corruption and mismanagement in all government sectors and I am confident that as long as he does not cling to the throne, he will go down in History as the best or one of the best Presidents of our country, SADC, Africa even the world! The book of Esther, the last chapter 10 – Acknowledges that Mordecai was well respected, adored by his people and he made sure that they were protected and enjoyed the resources of the Kingdom. I am not sure about that as far as JZ, but he has earned my respect in government. UZuma kaMsholozi, uGedleyihlekisa – izithakazelo zonke. The question is; will he be still loved by the masses at the end of his term? You, be the judge.
