Demand of Ayurvedic Medicines on all time high
• As the world is realizing the side-effects of
Allopathy and its inefficiency to provide
holistic health the demand for Ayurvedic
medicines as safe alternative therapy is all
time high around the world.
• The beginning of the new century has brought
Allopathic method of treatment to take a back
track. All over the world there is demanded
prevalence of herbal medicines. According to
a statistical report, sale of Ayurvedic
medicines is estimated to be more than Rs. 3
lakh crore around the globe.
• The major international companies in the field of
herbal medicines are depending on India, which is a
natural source of herbs. Since the Vedic age the plants,
trees and creepers of medicinal value have been
recognized in India. The magical effect of the herbs as a
medicine has been tested on the scientific platform.
According to an estimate the Indian system of
medication and homeopathy have a business of over
one million dollar, which is equal to Rs. 4300 crore.
• The Ayurvedic medicines have a market share of 84
percent in the market. Their usage had been
predominant in rural areas, small towns and sub urban
areas but now the affluent sections of the society living
in the metro cities are also slowly switching to
Ayurveda after experiencing the side effects of
allopathic medicines.
• According to a survey of WHO the ayurvedic
medicines’ business would be 5 trillion dollars in
the next five decades. If this report is considered
to be true then herbs will rule the 21st century.
Presently the traditional ayurvedic medicines
have taken 50 percent share in the European
markets, which is a major dent for the allopathic
medicines. In US alone, the ayurvedic medicines
have gained a market share of 12 per cent and
the figure is 4 per cent more in case of Japan. As
far as the Asian countries are concerned these
traditional medicines have dominated the
markets with a whopping 195 per cent share and
in other European countries it is 4 per cent.
• There is a sudden upsurge in the inclination towards alternative
herbal medicines in place of allopathic medicines. According to an
information report from the Department of Indian herbal system
and homeopathy 10 to 20 percent of the patients in the foreign
countries especially the western countries are shifting towards
traditional medicines due to the fear of contacting other ailments
caused due to the side effects of allopathic medicines. It is
extremely difficult to get rid of the side effects which are caused
due to the consumption of allopathic medicines. The ayurvedic
business is increasing day by day in India. The herbal based
cosmetics are also being introduced in the market looking at the
immense opportunities in the ayurvedic business. Hair shampoo,
hair oil, body lotions, fairness creams, powders, tooth pastes,
lipsticks, kajal (eye liner), hair colors, nail polish and many other
cosmetics made with herbs and trees are being manufactured these
days. The manufactures of herbal cosmetics claim that the usage of
these cosmetics has no side effects on the body. Sudden rise in the
import of medicinal plants and herbs from India also proves this.
