3. 1. CONTINUE WITH SCHOOL
Continuing with school allows the learner the
opportunity to obtain the National Senior Certificate
(NSC)
In the senior phase a learner is required:
Minimum of 7 subjects
2 official languages
Life Orientation (compulsory subject)
To choose between Mathematics or Mathematical literacy
To choose three subjects of their choice

4. For a learner to pass their final year of school
(Grade 12/Matric)
A minimum OF 40 % average IS REQUIRED
40 %+ in their Home language,
40 %+ in two other subjects
And 30 %+ in three other subjects

EDUCATION CERTIFICATE (GEC)
THE LEARNER IS OF THE LEGAL AGE TO LEAVE

9. General Education Certificate (GEC) is a qualification
will receive at the end of Grade 9 which will give them the
option of choosing different ways of finishing their time
high-school.
Grade 9 learners who pass their GEC will have the option
attend a school or even a college that focuses on teaching
things like technical science, agriculture, engineering,
aviation, mining, media, maritime studies and or even just
sport
The GEC Qualification only allows the learner to further
studies at Technical and Vocational Education and
(TVET) college

Scholarships
Scholarships and bursaries are very similar. Scholarships focus
on a particular area, such as academics, sports, cultural. And
just like bursaries, scholarships are for paying your tuition
Bursaries
fixed amount of money given to someone to help pay for their
studies. This is usually given to people who can’t afford further
studies but show commitment to their studies. Bursaries differ
in amounts.
the money is not required to be paid back, but there may be
an agreement of some sort – usually regarding maintenance of
high marks

11. Tertiary Study Funders
Student loans
Student loans are not very different from normal bank loans.
The bank lends you money, fully expecting you to pay it back, with
interest.
You usually pay the loan back only once you start working but must
pay the interest on the loan every month while studying.
You need to apply annually, and banks may choose not to renew your
loan if your studies are neglected.
The benefit of loans are that the money can be used however you see
fit, as opposed to being used only for tuition.

University financial aid
Universities do try to supply financial aid in the
form of bursaries, scholarships and loans.
This aid may be withdrawn should your academic
performance decline

There are jobs that one can apply for which do not require
matric completion
Such as being a Nanny, Photographer, Event planner,
Customer service representative, Personal assistant or
Driver
Factors to consider when seeking employment:

Duration of employment: Part-time, temporary or permanent work
