Our work has led to a distraction problem. Point: the working day is now full of bursts and troughs of activity, which make it hard to establish flow and collaboration. How do we even get into flow? Its seem ridiculous to propose it when you look at the type of days we have.
Let’s take a look at a typical day…
According to a recent Forrester Digital Transformation study (https://www.microsoft.com/microsoft-surface-hub/en-us/case-studies/forrester), 41 percent of employees report they now spend more time away from their desk than they did two years ago— many significantly so. And business leaders are doing more to support how people work:
Recognizing the value of freeing staff to work more flexibly
Adopting working practices that embrace mobility
Remodelling workspaces to encourage collaboration
While everyone’s day is unique to them, we all have points throughout the day where we are on the go—and need ultra portability, without compromising on productivity.
Times when we need to focus—when we need to be totally immersed in our work, to be ultra productive with devices that can handle whatever software and apps we throw at them.
And times when we need to be ultra collaborative—to analyze data together to make a decision, to brainstorm a new approach to our business, to do “face-to-face” meetings without being in the same room.
Although decision-makers believe they excel in mobility and collaboration investments for their companies, only 33% of employees say the technology provided by work “fully meets their needs” (Steelcase Global Report in Engagement and the Global Workplace)
One of the ways we can get there is to help employees achieve flow: Inspired by Forrester: https://www.forrester.com/report/Workforce+Enablement+Defined+Elevate+Productivity+And+Engagement/-/E-RES113826
By achieving flow, we have a better opportunity to stay productive, creative, and produce better ideas. Its difficult, but we can get there.
