Following a needs and impact assessment at Simon Fraser University, a curriculum focused on developing job search skills for EAL (English as an Additional Language) learners emerged. This curriculum has now been trialled with new international students in a pilot program at Fraser International College.
The findings of the impact assessment show that the curriculum has not only resulted in students having a better understanding of how to prepare for the job market post-graduation, but there has also been a positive impact on these students' motivation for academic study.
In this recording, Sharla Reid and Heather Williams discuss and share results from a pilot program. This program highlights the collaborative efforts between FIC and partner institution, Simon Fraser University to find new ways to adapt curriculum for new purposes while increasing student retention and engagement.

Testimonial
For me, JSS Program will give a more general idea to apply for jobs in Canada especially for
international students. JSS Program will offer all the needed requirements in terms of
procedure such as writing the right resume and creating cover letter as well as providing
students the proper way to behave in the workplace. The program itself is taught in a very
straight forward manner so students do not have to feel pressured to do it. When having
difficulties, the instructor will be available with fast response and detail solutions.
Before trying the JSS Program, I have absolutely no idea and plans about applying jobs in
Canada because of different behavior and workplace. However, joining JSS Program
afterwards have taught me to break the boundaries and be more confident about myself that
every major that we take will be fruitful. Difference is seen as an added value in the
workplace and this course will encourage students to show their potential. I highly
recommended this course to fellow students that is planning to make a career in Canada.
