Team Coaching
How to manage the force that
drives performance
Team coaching ensures each individual’s
capabilities contribute to team performance
Managers should be able coach any type of team
situation-be it functional team, a team of peers or
a project team-to accomplish the most work
together effectively
If team members cannot work well together,
performance and productivity suffer
Recognizing symptoms of an unhealthy team is to
be proactive about improving team performance
Signs of hostility, conflicting goals, and unclear
expectations should be addressed fast!
Team coaching improves team to the next level of
performance while complementing distinctly from
individual coaching
Manager coach recognize that even though a team
is meeting its objectives, often, areas of
improvement still exist
Team coaching by a trained manager is a valuable
activity to use as an essential management
and leadership tool
Team coaching helps members to understand ways
to work better with others
Team coaching improve communication to
understand others’ view for better
team performance
Team coaching shows how to reduce conflict and
improve relationships to focus on real work to
achieve objectives
How to coach a team successfully
Focus on interpersonal skills and interactions
instead of individual development only
Focus on drivers of team performance –
how people act and ways of communication
with teammates
Focus on understanding the dynamics of the
team members by relating to unique strength
of individual’s different working styles
Advice team members to avoid being “pushy”,
or walk away from conflict or failing to refrain
from speaking his or her mind
Recognize that a heated argument without any
side backing down would lead to poor decision
making and result in unproductive work
Team coaching would require a manager to bring
together members to discuss individual profile
and work style to assist teamwork
Emphatic understanding through team coaching
helps team members to gain insight of one
another in order to adjust own behaviour while
interpreting others for better result

  • 2. Team coaching ensures each individual’s capabilities contribute to team performance
  • 3. Managers should be able coach any type of team situation-be it functional team, a team of peers or a project team-to accomplish the most work together effectively

  • 8. Manager coach recognize that even though a team is meeting its objectives, often, areas of improvement still exist
  • 9. Team coaching by a trained manager is a valuable activity to use as an essential management and leadership tool
  • 10. Team coaching helps members to understand ways to work better with others
  • 11. Team coaching improve communication to understand others’ view for better team performance
  • 12. Team coaching shows how to reduce conflict and improve relationships to focus on real work to achieve objectives
