Today we’re announced a new partnership with OpenAI and new Azure innovations building on the company’s AI momentum and further substantiating Azure’s position as the Intelligent Cloud. OpenAI is a nonprofit AI research organization co-founded by Elon Musk, Sam Altman, Greg Brockman and Ilya Sutskever. With this partnership, we hope to make significant contributions to advance the field of AI, and make it more accessible to every developer and every organization. OpenAI chose Microsoft Azure as their primary cloud platform, to help advance their research and create new tools and technologies that are only possible with the cloud. We also announced Azure innovations to demonstrate our commitment to AI, and to help developers and organizations run high performance workloads and build intelligent applications.

OpenAI chose Microsoft due to our deep learning research and ongoing commitment to AI, along with Azure’s support for open source technologies and its unique combination of high performance computing, big data and intelligence capabilities such as Azure Batch, Azure Machine Learning and the Microsoft Cognitive Toolkit (formerly CNTK).

We are also making great progress in speech. Six months ago we became the first to reach human parity in speech recognition with the famous Switch Bot data set that is a collection of phone call data. And we beat the human error rate of 5.9 percent and we continue to improve.
