Meet "Henrietta" who presents with the complaint of painful nodules at the left inguinal area. She has a long history of developing these over many years. As we discuss her case including history and exam, it's apparent that she suffers with a condition known as Hidradenitis Suppuritiva. Approximately 1% of the US population is estimated to have HS to varying levels of severity. The prevalence is 3:1 more common in women. If you have these symptoms then be sure to mention HS as a possible diagnosis to your family doctor. There are medications that can be helpful. In our case today we are going to open these painful nodules to drain what may be infection. Most likely we are only verifying that there is not an infection preventing healing. Inflammation alone can cause the painful nodules that you will see. Please refrain from making childish or rude comments. They are not welcome here.
