This presentation is about Neurolinguistic Programming or NLP for short. NLP was founded by John Grinder and Richard Bandler, back in the 1970s and has since, spread all over the world. Richard has defined NLP as "an attitude, backed by a methodology, that leaves behind a trail of techniques". It is through the use of this novel technology that average people learn how to "run their own brains" and create a subjective reality that enables them to become all that they can be.

NLP Model
Neuro: refers to how we process
experiences through our five senses
(visual, auditory, kinesthetic,
olfactory and gustatory) and language.
Linguistic: refers to language and
non-verbal symbol systems which we
use to give meaning to our neural
representations. (includes math,
music, art, etc.)
Programming: The act of creating
systematic responses (also known as
habits)

The Structure Of Magic
Originally published in 1975.
Formulated the Meta Model for understanding
the structure of language.
Intended to be used by therapists for their
clients.
7. To know Richard Bandler makes one aware that he
has served many years as the creative genius behind
NLP. To get to know him beyond that rough
exterior...introduces one to his spirit of passion in
"going for it" and his curiosity for the possible. And
this very spirit functions in a foundational way to
make NLP dramatic and dynamic.

8. NLP AttitudeBe purposive - act from intention
Professionalism gets results
Wed Competence and Confidence
Flexibility: Be outrageous or crazy
Experiment: try things
View life as a challenge
Use common sense: take only calculated risks
13. NLP Presuppositions
The meaning of the communication is the response you get.
The map is not the territory.
Language is a secondary representation of experience.
Mind and body are parts of the same cybernetic system
which affect each other.
Law of Requisite Variety: In any cybernetic system, the
element or person with the widest range of behaviors,
variability or choice will control the system.
Behavior is geared towards adaptation.
14. NLP Presuppositions
Present behavior represents the best choice available to that
person.
Behavior is to be evaluated and appreciated or changed as
appropriate in the context presented.
People have all the resources they need to make the
changes they want.
Possible in the world and possible for me is only a matter of
how
15. Operational Principles
Know Your Outcome
Have sufficient sensory acuity to
know whether or not you're getting
closer
Have sufficient flexibility of behavior
so that you can vary your behavior
until you get your outcome.
Take Action Now!
16. Logical Levels
Originally developed by Robert Dilts
and Todd Epstein, who based their
work on Gregory Bateson and
Bertrand Russell.
Adds precision and depth to both our
communication with, and our
understanding of, other people.
Provides a structures way for
understanding what's going on in any
system such as the human
personality, a business, department,
etc.
17. Well-Formed Outcome
Must be stated in positive terms.
Must be testable and demonstrable in
sensory experience.
Must be sensory specific.
Must be initiated and maintained by
the subject.
Must be appropriately and explicitly
contextualized.
Should preserve any positive product
of the present state.
Must be ecologically sound.
19. 21 COMMUNICATION
PRINCIPLES
COMMUNICATION IS BASED ON PERCEPTION01
PEOPLE ACTIVELY TRY TO MAKE SENSE OUT OF THEIR
ENVIRONMENT
02
PERCEPTIONS ARE ORGANIZED AND STRUCTURED WITHIN A BRIEF
PERIOD OF TIME.
03
PEOPLE USE STEREOTYPES TO ORGANIZE THEIR PERCEPTIONS04
PEOPLE TEND TO SEE OTHERS AS SIMILAR TO THEMSELVES.05
20. 21 COMMUNICATION
PRINCIPLES (CONT'D.)
PEOPLE ATTEMPT TO MAINTAIN THEIR ORIGINAL PERCEPTIONS
REGARDLESS OF CONTRADICTORY INFORMATION
06
PEOPLE FEEL OBLIGATED TO REPAY OTHERS REGARDLESS
IF THEY LIKE THE GIFT OR THE GIVER.
07
PEOPLE HAVE A NEED TO BE CONSISTENT.08
PEOPLE ARE MORE EASILY INFLUENCED BY OTHERS THEY
PERCEIVE AS THEMSELVES.
09
PEOPLE ARE MORE EASILY INFLUENCED BY PEOPLE THEY LIKE.10
21. 21 COMMUNICATION
PRINCIPLES (CONT'D.)
THE PERCEPTION OF CREDIBILITY INCREASES WITH THE
PERCEPTION OF AUTHORITY
11
PEOPLE ARE MORE EASILY INFLUENCED WHEN THEY
BELIEVE THE SOURCE TO BE SCARCE OR VALUABLE.
12
PEOPLE ARE MORE EASILY INFLUENCED BY THOSE THEY PERCEIVE
AS CREDIBLE.
13
PERCEPTION OF CREDIBILITY IS BASED ON 3 FACTORS:
COMPETENCE/EXPERTNESS, TRUSTWORTHINESS AND
DYNAMISM
14
15 PEOPLE ARE INFLUENCED BY THE WAY THE MESSAGE IS
STRUCTURED AND DELIVERED.
22. 21 COMMUNICATION
PRINCIPLES (CONT'D.)
THE PERCEPTION OF CREDIBILITY IS INFLUENCED BY
PERSONAL ATTRIBUTES.
16
PEOPLE CHOOSE LEADERS RAPIDLY AND ON LIMITED
INFORMATION.
17
PEOPLE USE INFORMATION OTHER THAN FACTS IN MAKING
DECISIONS
18
PEOPLE MAKE DECISIONS BY EMOTIONS (UNCONSCIOUS MIND)
AND VALIDATE THEM WITH LOGIC (CONSCIOUS MIND)
19
20 PEOPLE MORE EASILY RETAIN INFORMATION WHEN ANCHORED.
21 PEOPLE SEEK TO RENDER A JUDGMENT WHICH THEY PERCEIVE
AS EQUITABLE.
23. Internal Processing Filters
Meta Programs: "Sorting devices or patterns that
we use in perceiving, pay attention to information,
and inputting and processing the stimuli around
us." (Hall, Bodenhamer)
Values: How we decide our actions are good or
bad, right or wrong and provide the primary
motivating force behind our actions.
HOW WE DELETE, DISTORT AND GENERALIZE
INFORMATION THROUGH OUR 5 SENSES
24. Internal Processing Filters
Beliefs: Convictions or acceptance that ceratin
things are true or real.
Attitudes: Collections of values and beliefs around
a certain subject.
Memories: The power of the brain to recall past
information or experiences.
Decisions: A choice that is made, or the act of
making up one's mind.
HOW WE DELETE, DISTORT AND GENERALIZE
INFORMATION THROUGH OUR 5 SENSES

27. NLP Patterns
NLP Patterns are structured processes that are used to change unwanted behaviors
and create rapid change. They empower people to "run their own brains " and
construct subjective realities that enhance how they function.
WHAT ARE NLP PATTERNS?
28. NLP Patterns
Parts: Patterns used to integrate two or more
"parts" that are in conflict.
Identity: Patterns that relieve distress inherent in
one's sense of self.
States: Patterns that correct problematic
unresourceful states of consciousness.
Language: Patterns that correct cognitive errors in
self-talk and languaging oneself in negative ways.
"MAGICAL INCANTATIONS FOR GROWTH AND EXCELLENCE"
29. NLP Patterns
Thinking Styles: Patterns that correct cognitive and
perceptual distortions or inappropriate meta-
programs.
Meanings: Patterns that correct limiting beliefs and
unenhancing meanings.
Strategies: Patterns that help give rise to a piece of
desired behavior.
"MAGICAL INCANTATIONS FOR GROWTH AND EXCELLENCE"
30. Anchoring
Stacking anchors - The process of associating a
series of events with one specific anchor so as to
strengthen the intensity of the subject's response
to a specific anchor.
Collapsing Anchors = A process of neutralizing
negative states by triggering two incompatible
responses at the same time.
Chaining Anchors - A process by which a series of
anchors are created to lead from an undesired
state through a series of intermediary states to the
desired state.
THE PROCESS OF ASSOCIATING AN INTERNAL
RESPONSE WITH AN EXTERNAL TRIGGER
31. Perceptual Positions
Self Other

feel about the
situation from your
point-of-view
How the situation
appears to someone
who's not involved.
How the other
person sees the
situation from a
perspective that
matters to them.
