Lack of TEAM WORK
Why team fails?
1. Because of weak Communication between team members.
2. Due to a lack of Networking and partnering with other
organizations outside of the team.
3. Because the vision of the team leaders and the day-to-day
workings of the team are imbalanced.
4. Because of poor operating Strategies. All team members do
not own the team plan.
5. By not doing the right things in the right way at the right time.
Ignoring the opportunities!
6. Because poor conflict management skills cause teams to fail.
7. Because the strengths of the team are not highlighted.
8. Due to good opportunities for change being ignored.
9. Due to a lack of interpersonal team building skill. It is not a
priority.
-: Team Activities :-
 Team Trust :-
 Building trust in the workplace helps foster an atmosphere of
collaboration, and it can go a long way toward increasing
productivity.
• Communication :
 One of the things that creates an atmosphere of trust within a
team is open and honest communication.
 Also, it is important to understand when it is appropriate to
speak up and when it is necessary to keep information to
yourself.
 Having enough trust in your teammates that you will walk an
obstacle course blindfolded under their guidance is a powerful
trust exercise. This is known as a trust walk, and the object is for
one or more people to navigate a blindfolded teammate through
a series of obstacles they cannot see.
• Commitment :
Commitment is an important part of trust. Every
team member must commit to help teammates meet the
goals of the team -- no matter if personal or professional
obstacles present themselves.
• Competence :
Team members must trust that their teammates are
competent and can successfully complete the tasks
relevant to the team's success. For example, each team
member should be able to focus on an assigned task
without worrying about teammates following through with
their assigned tasks.
• Collaboration :
True collaboration won't happen without a sense of
trust between team members. When team members
collaborate, they share creative ideas without fear that
another team member will take credit for their ideas.
Team Shape Up :
 Team shape up activities help people to develop mutual respect,
openness, understanding, and empathy, as well as helping to
develop communication and teamwork skills.
 There are several team shape up activities :
– Some of them are :
– Mine field, Trust lean, running free, Hug-a-tree,
blindfold shape, blindfold rope etc.
 E.g. Blindfold shapes :
 Working together as a team, the group have to use their bodies to
form letters and words.
 Equipment Required: None
Space Required: Small Indoors or outdoors.
Group Size: 8 to 12 ideally.
• Total Time: 20-30 minutes
• 5 minutes to brief and set up
• 10-20 minutes to achieve outcome
• 5 minutes to review and debrief
• Human Shapes Team Challenge Instructions
• Find an area free of obstacles and ask participants to spread out
• Start out by asking the participants to make several letters of the
alphabet with their body e.g. B, C, D and E.
• Next up, get them to form the words you say e.g. with groups of
four people you would do words that have 3 or 4 letters i.e. dog,
bird, cat, step and groups of five people words that 4,5 or even 6
letters.
• Finally use a sentence or phrase that allows everyone to be
involved.
• You can also split the team into smaller groups and get them to
compete against each other.
• Try to make this activity fast paced, so they don’t think too much
and are kept energised.
 Suggested Learning Outcomes :
 Creative thinking
 Cooperation
 Support and trust
 Planning
 Team management & Team
Dynamics :-
Team management is the ability of an individual or
an organization to administer and coordinate a
group of individuals to perform a task. Team
management involves teamwork, communication,
objective setting and performance appraisals.
 team management is the capability to identify
problems and resolve conflicts within a team.
Team dynamics are the unconscious, psychological
forces that influence the direction of a team’s
behaviour and performance.
Team dynamics are created by the nature of the
team’s work, the personalities within the team, their
working relationships with other people, and the
environment in which the team works.
 Managing team dynamics :
• Trust among team members :
Building trust takes time. If trust is lacking it must be the
responsibility of the team leader to focus first on building trust, i.e.
getting team members to open up (among the team) and expose their
weaknesses and fears to each other. In some cases, a team building
exercise can be utilized.
• Define Roles and Responsibilities :
Defining the group's mission and objective, and everyone's
responsibilities – as soon as you form the team. Make sure that
everyone has a copy of the document, and remind people of it
regularly.
• Tackle Problems Quickly :
If you notice that one member of your team has adopted a
behaviour that's affecting the group unhelpfully, act quickly to
challenge it.
Provide a feedback that shows your team member the impact
of her actions, and encourage her to reflect on how she can
change her behaviour.
• Learn to commit to decisions and plans of action :
Team results will only come about as a result of team
commitment to team decisions, this includes agreeing on the
specifics of action plans.
• Focus on achieving collective results :
The vision and/or mission of the team must be accepted by all
the team members and critical goals viewed as the collective
responsibility of the team. Focusing on results that in any way
does not support the critical goal(s) of the team will lead to
team failure.
• Hold one another accountable against their plans :
Team members must be prepared to check among themselves
to assure progress and overcome obstacles to progress. Ad hoc
meetings may be necessary to coordinate actions between
departments or groups to assure progress.
