2. Why Project Tango ?
Humans live in 3D physical world. But
mobile devices today assume that
physical world ends at the boundaries of
the screen.
Goal: Is to give mobile devices, a human
scale understanding of space and
motion.
3. The Beginning …
Google’s Advanced Technology and
Projects group (ATAP) has been working
with universities and research groups to
harvest ten years of research results on
Computer Vision and Robotics to create
a unique mobile phone.
4. Project Tango
This Project is under construction and
it's belong to Google.
Google and 16 other companies are
involved in this project
5. The Smart Phone….
For this project Google have come up with
the new Smartphone
This devices has unique ability to sense 3D
motion
The sensors allow the phone to make over
a quarter million 3D measurements every
second
6. External Features
An infrared projector.
4 MP RGB/IR camera
180º field of view fisheye (motion
tracking) camera
5" LCD screen
7. Inside the Device
Snapdragon 800 quad core CPU with 2 GB LPDDR3 RAM
Two Movidius Myriad 1 computer vision co-processors.
Two AMIC A25L016 16 Mbit low voltage serial flash memory ICs
9-axis gyroscope/accelerometer/compass MEMS motion
tracking device (built by InvenSense)
multimode multiband power amplifier module (by Skyworks)
Capri PS1200 3D sensor (built by PrimeSense)
8. Inside the Device
SanDisk 64 GB iNAND flash memory
Bosch BMX055 Inertial Measurement Unit
Qualcomm PM8941 Power Management IC
Qualcomm PM8841 Power Management IC
9. Movidius Myriad-1 Computer
Vision Processor
The Key feature of this device is the
Myriad 1 computer vision processor.
Previous procesors consume much
power, so they cannot be used in
mobile devices.
Extremely Powerful: Can Process
data and create 3D model of the
environment in couple of seconds.
10. What it can Do…
Smartphone is equipped with sensors
which make more than 1.4 million
measurements per second, updating the
position and rotation of the phone.
11. How It Works…
4MP RGB/IR camera : can capture full color images and detect
IR reflections.
IR Depth Sensor : Used to measure depths by Blasting an IR
pulse
Tracking Camera : To track objects
3 Basic operations
1. In real time can map depth of environment
2. Measure depth accurately using IR pulse
3. Create a 3D model of the environment real
time
19. The Future
Google Tango With NASA
ATAP over at Google announced that they will be partnering with NASA
to build autonomous robots. Using the technology developed for Project
Tango, the Spheres robot will be able to do tasks the astronaut
previously had to do themselves.
20. The Future
Developers are proposing to connect technology
in project tango with google glass. So you don’t
have to carry a phone the device can simply
model where you look.
