9. The bodies of the six Japanese passengers who were ejected
from the aircraft found with the cargo door, landed in near Saint-
Pathus approximately 15 kilometres south of where the
remainder of the plane was found.
10. When the door blew off, sets of backup control cables blew
too. That were completely destroying the pilots' ability to
control the elevators, rudder, and Number 2 engine. The flight
data recorder showed that the throttle for Engine 2 snapped
shut when the door failed. The loss of control of these key
components resulted the pilots losing control entirely.
The aircraft almost attained a 20-degree pitch down and speed
up, while Captain Berköz and First Officer Ulusman tried to regain
control , Seventy-seven seconds after the initial door gave way, It
hit into the trees of Ermenonville Forest, at about 500 miles per
hour (800 km/h)killing the remaining 340 people onboard.

15. EARLIER PROBLEM
An American AirlinesDC-10,flying as AmericanAirlines Flight 96, had experienced the same problem about two years ago.At that time, thecrew had
managed to land the plane safely. On the ground it was discovered the rearcargo door had opened inflight. This causeddamage to the fuselage but not the
explosive damage inthe case of Turkish981.Both planes experience uncontrolleddecompression when the cargo door latches failed. But Turkish981had
additional damage to the plane that may havemade it uncontrollable inflight
AnAirworthiness Directive was immediately issued by the Federal Aviation Administration(FFA). It called for strengthening the load floor and control cables. It
also required improving the electrical wiring havingto do with the cargo door
