2. Oral health is a state of being free from chronic
mouth and facial pain, oral and throat cancer,
oral sores, birth defects such as cleft lip and
palate, periodontal (gum) disease, tooth decay
and tooth loss, and other diseases and
disorders that affect the oral cavity.
3. FDI World Dental Federation organizes World
Oral Health Day since 2013.
6. The Government had launched National Oral
Health Programme (NOHP) in the year 2014-
15 .
7. Government of India has initiated a National
Oral Health Programme to provide integrated,
comprehensive oral health care in the existing
health care facilities
8. To improve the determinants of oral health
To reduce morbidity from oral diseases
To integrate oral health promotion and preventive
services with general health care system
To encourage Promotion of Public Private
Partnerships (PPP) model for achieving better oral
health
9. According to the Dental Council of India 72% of the
population live in villages which remain deprived from
dental care
According to Ministry of Health and Family
welfare, Dental Caries affects about 60% and
Periodontal disease about 85% of the Indian population
10. Government of India has decided to implement
Oral Care with the Primary Health Care system
under the program of National Health Mission.
Through NOHP, States are getting funds from
Govt. Of India to establish Dental Units.
Monitoring the progress of the program is
carried out by the National Oral Health Cell
(NOHC) & State Nodal officer.
